Budget:
Less than 1700

Expectations:
I am hoping to run most new games (anticipating the new Star Wars RPG) on highest settings

Usage:
Gaming

Special Needs:
Laptop

I am new to computer gaming, and unfortunately I am totally lost when it comes to most of this stuff.

I am looking to buy a laptop to use for general use (word processing, internet, etc.) but something to game on that is superior to what I have now.

Right now I am running a laptop with: Intel Core 2 Duo t550 (1.83 GHz w/2 MB cache), Geforce 9500M GS, 3 GB of Ram and 250 GB HD.

Obviously, I am looking for upgrade from that quite a bit. I don't need something ridiculous, but I was hoping to run the new Star Wars RPG (which they are expecting to be like RIFT as far as requirements go)and games like Call of Duty on high settings. But my budget is fairly low, so I don't even know if that's possible.

Help?

Well you have lots to consider.  Screen size 15" or 17"   That will probraly determine alot if you want it a little more portable or want the extra resolution the larger screen has.   I would look at the x17 (4th laptop model over from left to right) and the second level.  For $1650 you can get a very nice rig.  I7,8GB ram,460M graphics card.  It should be able to play almost any game out their at 1920 x 1080 which is the native resolution.

It should handle almost everything your looking for in terms on wordprocessing.  Only thing I would be unsure about is if the 460M can get playable framte rates at high settings in Call of Duty.  Here is a different laptop withthe same amount of memory, same cpu, same graphics module on you tube playings single player call of duty.  Unsure of the settings but you can watch it for yourself and see.
