I have been having problems with my computer booting up ever since I got it. I would get a media test failure - check cable error and it would exit boot agent. I would open the pc and jiggle the cables to get around this most the time, sometimes it would boot up normally. Lately it was getting to be everytime. Tonight when it did it I pulled out the drives to get to the place where the drives plug into the mobo and reseated them and it booted. Maybe its a cable issue? I guess I am posting this because I think maybe my PC isnt right. When I play games I usually get good fps and they run fine but when I look around the game environment like for instance BF2 i can see these choppy horizontal lines. If I stay still the game looks fine. Its really hard to explain but it dont look smooth playing like this. Actually when I loaded BF2 last everything was normal till the the round started and then the screen was blue.......I could hear the game sounds but no graphics. I exited and reentered and it was ok. I dont know whats going on, any input as to what could be the problem would be sweet. I will try to call DS as soon as possible but until then posting here will put my mind at ease............................

call em.. it could be a bunch of different things wrong. It could be just a bad cable, or it could be a lot worse...

DS will go over the troubleshooting steps the right way.

Sounds to me like you may have a bad SATA cable. Give us a call and we'll walk through some troubleshooting steps together.

Dave, I called today and was told to reseat the vid card and try the beta drivers. I tried the beta drivers and it still looks bad in game when I move around or look around. Shouldnt BF2 look smooth on a 8800GTS? Can anyone tell me how it should look or how they run it? The boot up issue likely is the cable but its booted up fine so far since I reconnected it to the mobo but give it some time to see if it happens again. Right now I just want to make sure my system is performing properly. Could a bad cable cause the game to look bad? I dont have a clue, I need to get ready for COD4 so I want to get this ironed out. Maybe nothing is wrong and Im just nuts.......................Thanks for the help..................

Oh yeah, would be helpful........quad core OCed, 2G Ram, 8800GTS 640m, Raptor HD, on XP. My FPS dosent seem bad its steady 60 when capped. When you play on your PC if your running around looking is it smooth and clear? I tried every setting and the odd lines can be seen on certain objects or colors........like when you see a computer screen on tv that line that goes through imagine that but its moving as you move and look around.................

This sounds like a vysnc issue. Nothing something I know a whole lot about though.

In the game you're playing, go into advanced options and enable Vsync. Does that get rid of the line you're talking about?

A bad cable (hard drive I am assuming) will not cause your video card to go bad.

If the game is not running right, we need more specific details. Are you seeing weird lines everywhere (artifacting) or is the game really slow and choppy (slow performance).

Please clarify that aspect so we can help pinpoint this issue. If it is artifacting, it can be due to an overheating video card or even a bad card. If it's slow performance, we need to double check your BIOS settings and see if there are any resources draining the CPU in the background.

Alex, I wouldnt say the wierd lines are everywere.......just depends on the colors I guess. Seems to be prevalent on lighter objects especially when I get close to them in passing.(the fence in a BF2 map for example) I dont think its a heat issue I can monitor that.......what temp should it be Ill watch it and post back. I tried to take a screenshot but they come out fine its just the motion that causes it. Ill also try that to enable vsync. I really wish I could explain better what it is Im seeing......its like the lines are splitting the graphics into blocks.....it just doesnt look right. Its not fluid at all. Im such a noob.....................

Try enabling VSYNC inside in-game options. If you have a dual video card setup, try disabling SLI in Windows. Also, if you have two sticks of memory, try removing one stick at a time (it resolved a previous customers artifacting problem).

Apparently there is no in game Vsync options. I turned force vsync on in the Nvidia control panel. Im confused by this nvidia control panel.....do these settings override in game settings or vise versa? I been playing with the settings and foir the most part its better, but i think I may have a performance issue because it is actually choppy at points when there is alot of action. I got COD4 and it was a bit choppy. I forgot to mention during one of my boot up problems I had some kind of message about going into safe mode and check CMOS settings or something of that nature. Should I call and check this BIOS or could I get some instructions here? Maybe a resourse issue? Lemme know.........thanks for tha support as always..................................

If you got the "CPU is in Safe mode, please check CMOS settings" message, we need to re-configure your overclock. Give us a call and we can walk you through it.

I would say to ask for Kelly, but we can all handle overclocking. He's just more experienced and seems to enjoy those calls most of all. The process should only take about twenty minutes, but it can take up to an hour and a half if it's a trouble CPU. As for what could have caused it... Perhaps a climate change? Maybe your contact goo has shifted. (Very unlikely.) Give us a call again and we'll figure it out.

I was posting from work and when I got home I DIED..........because my PC wouldnt boot again. This time I changed out the sata cable (thankfully you guys provided them) but, it still didnt boot up! I had to wiggle it at the connection point on the motherboard to get it to finally boot. Ive opened this PC up more than any Ive ever had and its only been a month! Im still not discouraged. I hope Kelly is prepared................AngryConfusedCensoredDead
