I wanted to start this post for any suggestions on making your computer more theft deterrent. hehe, I have heard a few wild ideas from some buddies and such.

So far I have a motion detector alarm that alarms with a 130dB Alarm and strobe lights, and another motion detector that will call up to 3 programmable phone numbers lol..

My friend was saying I should get a gun safe and drill holes in it for ventilation and use it as a cage for my PC then just lock it up when you leave.. you could even bolt it to the ground if you wanna go over the top =P

Pretty good idea actually.. but not an easy task to accomplish lol

too bad they dont make a Tazer Mode on computers =P

Hmmm..

Dig 4'X4'x12' man pits in a 16 ft grid starting 12 ft from your door.

Lay down retractable tire spikes in the driveway.

Install an infrared beam at approximately 15 in from the ground surrounding the Cr8ton compoun... er, I mean household

Install an 8ft. tall electrified fence around the perimeter, err I mean, around your front yard.

Take the serial numbers off all of the components of your system. Record those numbers and store them speperately from the system. If stolen, provide that info to the police. At least then, if the person stealing your system is busted on another crime, the police can nail them for the theft too.

If you don't carry renter's/homeowner's insurance, do that. Make sure you provide your insurance agent with a copy of the receipt and pictures if the system is over 2K in value. Make sure the policy covers replacement cost. Renter's insurance is *cheap*, and it's a good idea anyway. Not carrying homeowner's insurance is beyond my ability to fathom.

Awesome, I believe we do have that but i'm going to make sure with my parents today.. So is the serial numbers for the replacement purposes of a stolen comptuer or just to help possibly link the criminal with your stolen components?

I will snap alot of pics when i get my rig for sure =P

I haven't relied on this form of deterant for many years. In the good old days, if my wife and I were going out of town, we would just neglect to pick up the large deposits of dog "poo" around the perimeter of the house for a week or two beforehand. Sort of an mini vacation before the vacation. Never had a problem.....

That's why you have homeowners insurance.  Just claim it and buy a new one.

I have my pc claimed under my homeowners, and a separate property ins.  Best of all though (besides the firepower) I have a dog.  Most people are just scared by his bark when they come to the door.

When i walk by a house with a fence around it that says "Beware of dog" or "Guard dog on duty"  I generally try not to get too close to the fence.  Get a dog house out front too with an extremely thick metal chain so they think you are housing a three headed dog.

The best way to aproach this sort of situation is to go old school with it.  Build a moat around your house and get a pet Komodo Dragon to patrol the yard... No one wants to mess with a big lizzard/dragon/reptilian.
