Hello,
I got my Bolt 3 two weeks ago
I am more than satisfied with everything except that my computer is making really loud noise when I start it up

At first it would calm down after about five minutes, but now it would hardly calm down
Seems like only way of calming it down is turning on Battlefield 4 now...
I and my generous roommate are fine with the noise, I just wanted to make sure my computer is not committing suicide or anything

The noise seems to be coming from the bottom fan

If anyone got a helpful advice or reassurance, please reply ;(

Thank you for reading and have a nice day

Tough to say.  When you say the bottom fan, do you mean the graphics card's fan?   They do make noise when they ramp up under load but if the noise is a whooshing or humming noise associated with most fans.then that could be normal.   If its a grinding or clicking noise then the fan itself might be bad.  Then a new card is needed.

What card do you have?    Some cards like the Strix with 2 fans only turn on when temps hit in the 60'sC and then they are usually pretty quiet.   Single fan cards, reference cards, are on all the time but change rpm to match temps.

If its a high pitch noise then you could have coil whine.  A lot of cards have it and is usually caused by less than optimal chokes, etc that vibrate under a certain load.   It doesn't hurt the card but if its loud enough, a new card is needed.   Some will enable VSync to limit higher frames in a game above 60fps.  This drops the card's work load.

Best bet is to try to isolate the noise to whatever fan it is, stall it for a second with your finger or something, carefully,  or unplug it for a few seconds if its a case fan or cooler fan.

I checked my computer...
My graphics card is titan X, but it is located on top of the computer
I think card's fan is fine...
I checked the bottom fan, and it was hooked up to liquid CPU cooler...

I am so puzzled because if CPU cooler has bad fan, wouldn't it keep making grinding noise, in my case?
The noise stops after I start up a game...

Thank you for the reply!

You've got me why the fan stops making noise during gaming.   Could be the fan makes noise after a particular rpm.    I would call DS and have them determine the problem and most likely send you a new fan .

Trying to help with noises is tough because your definition of noise and mine might be different.   Although, a grinding noise is most likely a bad fan bearing.   Make sure nothing is hitting the fan like a wire harness, etc.

if the fan's out of alignment it can come into contact with something and cause a "ticking" or "scraping" sound.  if it's bad bearings, you'll hear a progressively more annoying "grinding gravelly" sound.  are you sure it's the fan making noise?  if it's more of a "bubbling" "gurgling" sound it could be that there is air in the water cooling loop and it goes away as the system runs and bleeds the air out.  very difficult to diagnose not being able to hear it for ourselves.  can you make/upload a video?

If you could try to isolate the source by disconnecting or stopping the fan blade of whatever is making the noise, we might be able to zero in on what is the issue.

Or, feel free to contact our support team, we can help you there as well.

I took a video of the noise, but I'm not sure how to share it...
I will try to isolate fans tomorrow...

Thank you for all the help

I just played around liquid cooler fan's power cables...
As soon as I took out cable in the header labeled chassis, the noise stopped... cable attached to the header labeled cooling had no effect on the noise...
What should I do from here?

If it's a 3 pin connector, that's most likely a fan and not the pump, as the pump uses a 4 pin molex connector. It looks like one of the fans in the system has something hitting it, like a wire or something.

Shipping must have dislodged a cable or zip tie near the fan blades, it can happen as the system jumps around in shipping.

If you can't figure it out, feel free to contact us for help.

I opened up the fan, and there was a splint...
