I wanted to run this config by the folks here before placing the order.
Lifestyle: I currently play wow, but likely to play other games. Monitor resolution 1920x1200. Upgrade path could either be a second monitor or a 3-D one :D. I do get irked by long boot times, and long program load times. Current system: A 2.5 year old 4-GPU nvidea (7950) SLI config. Wow doesn't really use them. I believe it's currently cpu and disk bound (Intel Core 2 6300 @1.86). Raid0 config of dual 160G 7.2k, 8M Samsung hard drives. I think raid0 hasn't really paid off for me because it doesn't really help with random access reads. Considerations for current system: I thought about a single Velociraptor, but people seem to think that I should wait for SSD prices to drop. So, I dropped myself back to the 500GB hard drive. Would the newer drive perform better than the old drives, even though the RPM is the same? I was going to get just 1xradeon or 1xnvidea, but it looks like the general recommendation is to go 2x because of my resolution? I also don't see much talk about radeon. I was always paranoid about OC, but people seem to think it's safe. So, I added it. I could be convinced to not go for OC. So... Here it goes: Direct Load URL: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=284972 Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Mushkin (Highly Recommended) (Digital Storm Certified) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-U12P High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty |

well first off wow does not utilize sli, so unless other games you play support sli, another card is pointless.
SSD drives have no rpm so yes newer drives will be faster, I think if you wait till Feb of 2010 you will be happy you did and would end up with a good SSD for a good price, old or new. OC is safe when done right, and DS wouldn't put the OC under warranty if they didn't do it right, otherwise they would pay out of pocket left and right to replace parts and soon would go out of business. I'm looking at your build and its a great build IMO. all its missing is a fast SSD and its even more beast. Edited by DST4ME - 20 May 2009 at 1:00am |
