Alright guys after a looooooooooooong year and a half wait by the beginning of may I shall be able to order the digital storm beast I have been dreaming of all this time. bpratt, DST, anyone else feel free to hit me with your comments, advice etc.
The direct load order is here http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=813903 I'm going to be using this computer for extreme gaming with a 1 monitor setup at time of purchase and adding another one a week or so down the road for my birthday. This desktop's budget is still 5k and I need the 4gb cards as I'm one of the few skyrim players that does indeed play their game with 10-15 graphics enhancing mods which easily eats up that 4gb of vram. I chose to have DS ship a monitor, keyboard, speakers and mouse with my rig as I just want to be able to come home from class one day see a hulking box of gaming goodness plug in and get rolling. I've got the new metro paid off plus other assumed graphically intense games coming out and can't wait to put this bad boy through its paces. Also DST if you could post me that link to the coolermaster site to let DS know to add that optional 200mm fan I'd really appreciate it thanks! finally on a side note I went with the h100i so I could get the corsair ram as well as the asus rampage as I figured might as well splurge on them and because meh why not lol. |

Looks real nice. Congrats.
The extra 200mm fan you mentioned will not fit with the H100i cooler. The fan mounts next to the other top 200mm fan, but the H100i's radiator and fans mount up there, eliminating the stock case fan. Good luck and keep us updated. |

So the H100i takes up the empty optional slot. Does it get rid of the other already installed 200mm as well? I'm slightly confused by the way it's worded.

The 240 mm radiator for the H100i mounts under the top panel, where the stock 200mm fan is from the factory. The fan has to be removed to make room for the H100i rad and its two fans. If you have the H100i then no 200mm fans on top and vice versa.

Oh I see, what would do better to cool this beast off the 2x200mm fans w/Noctua or an h100i? I know if I go with the 2x200mm fans option w/Noctua I can't put in the corsair ram as there's no head room for them then.

I vote for the Noctua d14 and the two 200mm top fans, but the h100i will also get the job done. Plus, the Noctua is quieter than the h100i. You can adjust the fans on the H100i to reduce their speed and make them quiet.
With Noctua, the tall heat spreaders won't fit, like you said, but they are for looks and really aren't needed. The sealed units are increasingly popular for there small size and do have a very good reputation. I still like the reliability of air coolers, but to each their own. |

Can I still get the Corsair ram and have DS take off the heat spreaders if they're just for show?

I'm not sure. I would say probably not but email DS and see what your options are.
I shouldn't say the heat spreaders are all show. Ram like that is for those that want to overclock their ram and push the envelope. The ram is selected for that ability and if pushed, the heat spreaders might help. But, for standard clock speeds, the spreaders do little.

with that case you are not going to need to worry about your ram temps.. Go with the noctua and have them add the extra 200mm fan its only 30 bucks. I just ordered it yesterday.

Yea I'm not worried about price my budget is pretty sparing for this build. I wish DS offered a tri sli 4gb 670 selection as that would have probably been my go to choice instead of the two 680's

Corsair does sell low profile Vengeance memory that looks pretty slick. Here's a link.
You'd have to special order it with DS though. You can also call and ask for the tri-sli 4GB 670s or put it in the special comments box. DS will make sure you get what you want |

Alright small update I should be able to place the order sometime next week. Slight problem, I didn't notice before but the Dreadnaught looks pretty big and I don't know if it would fit on my desk. I can't put it on the floor as it's carpeted and would suffocate between the desk and my bed. Is there any other cases out there for selection from the configuration tool that can house everything and still function pretty well even if i have to switch to corsair h100i or the case get nosier then my launch xbox 360's dying fans.

The problem is the width of the case currently which might conflict with the desk I've got. I've talked with my mom and we may just get a new desk so I can keep the hafx case as a 24' monitor and a 9.1" width case isn't compatible right now with what I've got. Thanks for the possible suggestion though!

The 500r is the case I ordered due to space restrictions, the 300r is 2" shorter in height and length.

500r is the smallest case that will take a Noctua D14. If I remember correctly, the 300r will take a h100i (240 mm radiator mounted on top. Should hold the SLI 680's and the rest of your things.

Just adding that this all came from DS as it is pictured, I didn't modify the ram or anything. So it can work, at least on the Dreadnaught (HAF-X).

It also works on the ODE's 600T cases. I have the A70 mentioned in Tidgxor's pic and the fan is mounted offset like it shows away from the mobo to make room for the taller heatspreaders. You just need a case wide enough to do it.

Since I'm looking at using my current desk for the time being and I didn't want to sacrifice any components for the most part I felt shoving everything into the ODE case and dropping the 3770k down to the 3570k to save $130 for the same performance on a purely built for gaming machine could be better put for cooling. I just don't know what size rad the stage 3 cooling uses. if anything can always just switch it down to the closed loop H100i as I'm not worried about noise as I'm used to my turbo jet xbox 360 and if anything I'll just switch the corsair speakers into a pair of corsair headphones.

Hi storm0545.. That build looks great.
Just an FYI... you mentioned in the posting of new changes to ODE that the ODE is smaller than Hafx and will fit the desk better. The ODE 600t case is wider and the same length as Hafx. It is a couple inches shorter. Just want to make sure you get what fits. The 600t is a large case. You can ask DS to send for free the optional side panel mesh grill that holds up to 4 x 120mm fans. With its front and top 200mm fans you probably won't need to. Good luck. Nice rig. |

Well after seeing the comparison ArkansasWoman777 posted I seem to be back at square one again. it's the length of the case that's killing me at this point my desk is only 22ish inches long which leaves little for the rear exhaust fan to blow hot air since it would be going into a wall right behind it.

The bottom foot support for the 600T is 14" long, in the middle, leaving the front able to easily and safely hang over the front of the desk by 6" or more. Not sure you want that but it is an option.

That is an option I might have to consider if all else fails. I don't know if there are smaller cases that could fit the same hardware I currently have configured both the dreadnaught/ode build i have. Finally as a last resort until I can get a proper desk to fit this badboy I could rotate the computer sideways and have the hot air vent over to the right of my desk and over my bed sitting right next to it.

The 500R case is only 20" long I believe, but the 600T's center footing support still allows the case to overhang more. The 500R does have a side window 200mm fan blowing air right on the cards/mobo.
Lots of ways to go.

too bad the hafx case can't overhang otherwise it would be perfect. Also what size rad does the stage 3 H20 cooling use is it a 120 or a 240mm rad? The only good thing is i still have this week to converse and change my moms mind about that desk if i manage to win and get the desk I'm going to order the original dreadnaught I had going for me. If I can't ill make sure to get the ODE and have it hang a few inches.

I believe the rads are 240mm but not sure.
The HafX case can overhang the desk. It is a heavy case with psu in the back. Not sure of the Hafx feet, but worse case you put a piece of plywood underneath to keep it level. Not sure you would have to, though. |
