I would also like to be able to upgrade this at a point in time. and I realize I wasn't specific in saying that the 80GB SSD is for the OS and 1 500GB HD is for games while the other is for my misc. files. I would like a computer that can play BDs but it doesn't have to burn them, so if this needs to be lowered I would gladly do it. The DVD burner needs to stay, and I really use Light Scribe, but this only adds $7 so I don't think that would be an issue. I'm changing the budget to $2000-$2500 including the monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. The mouse and keyboard and speakers can be downgraded, but I'd like the ability to have a 3D monitor. I would also like to be able to eventually upgrade to 3d Vision surround, so I'm assuming a GPU upgrade is necessary? That is about all I have now.

You're 14 and you want a $3k computer, holy cow lol. I'm feeling jealous....started out with a $2k and now I still think I've been a bit spoiled with what's in this thing. I'm 15 by the way, ordered when I was 13 or so, so I think you might be getting into something bigger than you know from my ordering experience...
You can get the kickass build DST posted up right now, but really man, I've been in your place and I've looked back at the dream machine Skulltrail builds I conjured up before and I still laugh my butt off at the price that those things had. Chocked them up with all the bells and whistles, hit the $4k or so price range, until I brought myself to my senses eventually and got a $2k rig. I still have it today, and really the only advantage that the 4k rig had over this was a processor that had overclocking that wouldn't impact too much on my performance and a ridiculous array of graphics card power that could cause problems itself. The point is, after $2500 or so you start getting less and less real daily power and more and more bells and whistles that'll really only show up and matter if you're a world class overclocker (justin.kerr) or serious serious enthusiast (Magik). If you want to get something for homework, some editing from time to time, and a few hours of gaming a day, like I do, a $4000 investment is hefty man. Speaking of that, have you even talked to your parents yet, or are you just dreaming now? LOL, been there done that. IMO, what'd best suit your needs from my perspective. No no no! Ok, let me clear this up! Like I said I want to use this as a learning experience, I will not be buying this computer..... yet....
But the purpose of this is to actually learn what you've just told me. A computer around 2k is really all someone like me would need! Most people I talk to always confirm that the more expensive the better it would. While I know this is not true, I just wanted to get another opinion! So I officially move the price range to 2-2.5k! The main goal for me is to build a computer that serves its purpose so that I have something to save up for! I'm actually getting a summer job this year, so I can finally start putting money away to actually buying my own computer! But for now, I am just learning! P.S. I already have a computer w/ a 500GB HD a I've only got 3GB left!!! I'm gonna need to double it at least! I've backed up some stuff on other Hard Drives, but I find most of it I still end up needing! So, I know I'll need more then that! Edited by CoolCaleb780 - 26 Jan 2011 at 9:21am |

Well I would make some changes to ablah's build to optomise it a bit more, so something like this, this one is a pc that can grow and do sli:
Here you go Ticket# 481977 --- $2436 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: -
