Topic: Config Help Posted: 30 Sep 2008 at 5:19pm |
Hi,
I had just recently come across digital storm will I was searching online this week. I had never heard of digital storm before but I had heard about Cyber power from a clip i saw on g4tv and had started to think about saving up to get one. But, once I read through the ds forums and saw what people had been saying about these computers and how poorly cyberpower pc's have been, I quickly changed my mind and am on board to save up money and by a ds desktop, hopefully soon. I'm looking into getting a good gaming desktop but would would not like to have to spend anything above 3000. Most of the computers I've seen were around the 2000 to 3000 range, unless there could be anything cheaper. Here is the config I have, I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me on how I might change things and even bring the price down. Thanks. Man are you lucky you ran into us then, otherwise you would have had. less choices, paid more, gotten less and crappy customer service.
DS is great place and I'm what you call a picky shopper, I checked out all of those places you are talking about and a few more, and after looking at over 10 places, DS stood very high, main reason is that even worst case scenario they did things I have not even ever seen any place else do, just to make the customer happy. anyways, I'll be back with my idea, you got some thing that need changing |

this is a killer beast, little over your price but its worth it, it should land you around 3.8 to 4.0. but if you don't mind being around 3.4 to 3.6 go with q9550, 3.2 to 3.4 is what you can expect from q9450. Ofcourse please remember these are all just my own guesses no numbers are guaranteed, I'm just basing it on what I have seen people report here.
here you go Ticket# 189173 --- Price: $2928 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Power Supply: 750W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache) Motherboard: nVidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) (DDR3 Only) System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive 1: 150GB Western Digital Raptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive 2: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Raid Option: - No Thanks Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: - No Thanks Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Liquid Chilled FrostBite CPU Only Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Modifications: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: Yes, Overclock memory timings (Includes Memory Fan Kit Installed) Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks my keyboard comes with a mouse External Storage: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty a velociraptor would be a good upgrade also Edited by DST4ME - 30 Sep 2008 at 5:46pm |

Thankyou for the help, I just had a few questions:
Why would I not want optical drives? Is overclocking needed? I'm sort of new to the whole overclocking thing so I was just wondering if this was something that all computers were automatically doing. |

that q9650 is a great chip, its almost a qx9650 but without the price tag and should land people closer to 3.8 or 4.0 range

On the config you sent me, you showed no optical drives and overclocking the processor and memory. I just had a few questions:

From having trolled some, and being somewhat familiar with the recommendations here, I'm sure the optical drive omission was an error.
Add a DVD R/RW with lightscribe for $49, but I wouldn't add two, rarely is there a need. As far as memory overclocking, I wouldn't add it, but a memory fan (call for a price, been stated around here about $20) would be a nice addition. If it's 40, or 55 for the fan and overclocking, you need to decide which is better for you. Edited by BulletStopper - 30 Sep 2008 at 6:29pm |

the DVD was a mistake it should be one there.
over clocking is setting in your bios that will make your q9650 3.0GHz run at around 3.8 to 4.0 GHz or possibly higher, In this system OCing the ram will bring better stable results of the over all OC IMO. here you go Ticket# 189227 --- Price: $2761 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Power Supply: 750W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache) Motherboard: nVidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) (DDR3 Only) System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive 1: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive 2: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Raid Option: - No Thanks Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Liquid Chilled FrostBite CPU Only Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Modifications: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: Yes, Overclock memory timings (Includes Memory Fan Kit Installed) Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks my keyboard comes with a mouse External Storage: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty Edited by DST4ME - 30 Sep 2008 at 7:08pm |

Thanks, I had a few questions:
-I've been reading that people have been having problems with vista and I was just wondering why vista premium would be the best choice for the windows os? -Under video card, why is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 not listed? -Is it fine to go with the integrated motherboard audio? |

nForce 790i has decent audio, so if you are not big on audio you are good to go.
problems with OS most times is a matter of conflict with other software. so just because you have a problem with vista does not mean that I will too , what I'm basically saying is that, don't worry about what you read with vista, there is nothing wrong with vista . actually its vista 64 bit premium,. vista 64bit can see and use all of your ram, you got 4GB of ram in sticks and 896MB of ram in your GPU. that is a total of 4.896GB of ram. A 64bit OS will see and use all of that, a 32bit OS will only see 3.5GB total. premium because it can see up to 16GB of ram so if down the road you should find you need 8GB of ram you will see and use all 8 this is not true for the vista 64 bit basic version. Also premium has some features that basic does not you can see them here Edited by DST4ME - 30 Sep 2008 at 10:53pm |

no liquid cooling? you will get much higher speeds with it, also it will make it easier for you down the road to add another GTX 260.
other then that, its a nice system. |
