Hello fellow cpu'ers could use some advice on buying a home cpu. I play wow and witcher but looking to have something that i can upgrade in time. Mostly concerned that i choose the right componets for future vid cards and a great monitor as my 52 yr old eyes need it :). Im not that savy on tech but i have tried to lessen your burden of help here. I dont know if a better form than the one i picked with monitor (i do not have a monitor, but could wait to buy that would be better)thank you so much for your time!
Budget: [2k] Expectations: [somewhat future upgrade worthy] Usage: [, plays wow, witcher, but interested in vr (future] Special Needs: [might use it for cad programs, autocad or microstation in future] Saved Ticket #: [Please Type Here] Specifications: [1449050 config info, I play on a laptop atm, and want something that is upgrade-able for future, so i put a good psu, also i wasnt sure on a monitor so chose mid range?] |

Well you certainly know more then a newbie, so don't call yourself that.
OK yup gpu upgrade (video card), you could upgrade your ssd and other drives, ram could be added if you needed more. Let me go look at few things on your config brb. |

seems the next step up adds 2-300 on with the monitor i chose but the mother board is z170 architecture? that might be better money spent than the h110?

My build is $73 more then yours however in power it kicks the pants off of your build. You get a better cpu that has HT and it will be running higher speed.
It has Hyperthread HT technology so it will have better longevity, and its faster so it will feel more powerful in 5 years then a stock i5. For your work I like to give you cpu with more cores but its expensive and I'm not sure if its in the budget and also I don't like to advise older tech unless I really have to. your ssd now is bigger but your storage 1TB is gone, do you need a storage drive right now? if not lets wait and see when you are ready if the price of ssd has come down enough for you to stick a 1TB ssd in there, if not add the 1x Storage (1TB Western Digital - Black Edition), make sure you add the black edition that are notorious for being dependable, unlike some other drives. your cpu boost is now stage 1 oc, but the cpu cooler limits us here greatly, and unfortunately we are not given an option to change it either. Here you go Ticket# 1449148 --- $1,868.00 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Chassis Model: Digital Storm VANQUISH 5 Core Components Processor: Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0GHz (Codename Skylake) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS/GIGABYTE (Intel Z170 Chipset) System Memory: 16GB DDR4 2666MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series Power Supply: 750W EVGA/Corsair Storage / Connectivity Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) (Internal) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (250GB Samsung 850 EVO) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics / Multimedia Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce GTX 1070 8GB (NVIDIA Founders Edition) (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Digital Storm Engineering Extreme Cooling: High Performance Cooler with Large Fan and Copper Pipes HydroLux Tubing Style: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected HydroLux Fluid Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Corsair Airflow Performance Edition (Up to 6 Fans) Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled LED Lighting System (Multiple color options and lighting effects) Digital Storm TwisterBoost Technology Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU - Up to 4.4GHz (Depends on Cooling and Motherboard) Software Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) Virus Protection: FREE: McAfee AntiVirus Plus (1 Year Service Activation Card) (Not Pre-installed) ($35 Value) Accessories / Goodies Customer Care Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 10-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) let me look around and see if I can find another config for same range but better options, I doubt but it does not hurt to try. |

that looks right on track , a better future build that i, lacked the understanding to do :) Doesnt have the monitor, I only have my laptop so i guess for the interim i could get a best buy or first pic $129 monitor here and upgrade that at a later date when i can.

Now the 1070 will do better at higher res than 1080p compared to the 970.
both are vr ready, obviously the 1070 is more powerful. For monitor you want to get that someplace like newegg or amazon where you will get a better deal. for monitor you need to do figure out if you want a 60hz or 144hz refresh rate monitor. the higher the refresh rate the better a moving image will look. next you want to figure out if you want a monitor that is 1080p, or 1440p or 4k. once you figure that out try and go for the one that is an IPS panel. tho right now IPS in 4k with 144Hz refresh rate does not exist. |
