1st off I'd like to thank bprat and Frank for some advice/suggestions in an earlier thread.

This is pretty much what I came up with to suit my needs for a few years at good value. (especially because of the free T-Shirt! :D )

I did leave the Haf case in but to be honest, not really impressed by it, at least compared to the Thermaltake beast that is the Lvl10GT monstrosity.
Thus the fans are just stock - I'll price in the GT's fans later.

I did drop to the z69 chipset from the x79 as I concluded it would be overkill for me.
Thus i went for the Intel Core i7 2700K 3.50 GHz CPU.

I don't want it "pre" overclocked, but only option is for the "turbo" thingy, I guess that's ok.

Also convinced myself, with some help, to bump to the GTX570 over the 560...The small price bump justified the performance imo.

Went SSD as well because i have plenty of HDs i can add later, plus more than a couple ext HD around here. ;)

Slapped in a card reader and Blu-Ray, figure good options for the buck. Maybe do USB expansion but the Thermaltake case has a ton already so really won't need if i go that route.

So really all in all, only bumped up the base price of
$1,306 to $2,188.00 with some good options.
Minus the Thermaltake case I want ofc.

Any and all comments appreciated.
Thanks all!
:)

Hi aj502,

You did a pretty good job.

You need to drop the 2700K and get the 2600K. They are the same chip and you are paying a premium for the 2700K. They just raised the base freq so they could charge more money for the same chip.

Drop the V12XT. With the HAF-X case you don't need to adjust the fans or add the upgrade fans. The upgrade fans are really a down grade to most of us. Unless the V12XT has been improved the temps don't read accurately. It will give you a relative reading that will tell if the temps are going up or down. To find true readings you will need Real Temp software. The one thing that these temperature gauges do is look real cool.

Drop the Standard Turbo Boost 2.0. With this computer you should get Stage 2 OC. The 2600K is a very cool running CPU and can do a Stage 2 OC with no problem. Just ask DS not to adjust the Vcore voltage above 1.4. They can do that easily with this CPU and have a very long life. If you just can't stand a stage 2 OC then get the stage 1.

Frank

Gotcha on the Temp and M-board.

Would not have known about 2700k.
;)

Not against OC'ing, but just rather have it stock...Can always do that later.
I'm anal enough to make sure I know exactly wtf i am doing if i decide to go there.

As far as fans, I not going to use the HAF case so I just left those as-is.

But the good thing is if do pick the OC from digital storm it is covered by the warranty. I honestly do not know if you OC yourself after the fact if it would affect your warranty or not. You might want to make sure on that since I know mine was OC by DS and if you mess with the OC on your own it voids your warranty.

If you oc yourself, without DS support the warranty is affected.

I'll have to.
Alex did say they have built one one before so we'll see what options they can give me.

Good point on the OCing...Will have to put this into consideration.

You can tell I am fairly diligent, thus not hurrying to get this new rig.

Also kind of waiting/hoping for some news on nVidia's new 6xx cards...They "sound" worth the wait in price and performance and April is right around the corner...

Any ideas on that?

Thx all!

I would definitely wait the week or two it'll take for official info to stream out of nvidia.

They definitely sound like they'll be worth the wait.

Yes, was more rhetorical on nVidia.
Hoped someone heard/read something I haven't. :P

I don't quite buy the "2x better for the same price", but seems like they'll still be a helluva card series.

I wonder how fast they'll sellout tho. TWSC(? - Taiwan Semiconductor) has been rumored to have been having a hard time keeing up with supply...
