Reference: #604396

Purpose:  Software Product Prototyping (computational and data intensive)

Problem: Dust.  (Like major, Big Time)   If at all possible I'd like to be able to add easily removable, cleanable, filters on the intake side.   If that is not possible I'm open to other suggestions.

Other Problem:  Intermittent power outages.  The APC 1500VA Uninterruptible Backup Surge Conditioner you offer looks pretty good but I can't find a 'Worst Case' for how long it would keep the system operational.  A WAG would be appreciated.

Current Build:

you can get magnetic filters to cover the fans if you like.

how come you got 2 different 1TB hdds?

in a case like enix with no cpu cooler, what kind of temps are you expecting? cause they are not going to be great.

Thank you for the quick response.

>you can get magnetic filters to cover the fans if you like.

I'd like.  Dust here in NM isn't an issue, it's a given.

>how come you got 2 different 1TB hdds?

The Western Digital came with the 'as presented build' and I had no particular reason to change it.  Chose the Seagate as a cushion.  I may need all that extra disk space; I may run into disk R/W performance issues and need to apply the 330 mb re-configuration hack to speed things up; I may not need it at all.

>in a case like enix with no cpu cooler, what kind of temps are you expecting? >cause they are not going to be great.

Over winter the office temps should be 70 or below.  I'll have to get an air conditioner in the office for next summer as temps can reach 90.

I wondered if I shouldn't go ahead and upgrade to a better cooling system as I was doing the initial build.   Now there is also the affect of the filters to consider - I presume they will interfere with the air flow?

Hitting a deadline.  99% sure will go with your configuration.  Haven't had a chance to study it.

If you have a gpu in another pc, maybe you just want to throw that in this one and save more money.

DST4ME:

The minuscule savings of $43 isn't worth losing the 72 hour stress test on the full system.

You'll notice you convinced me to go with the WD Caviar for both primary and secondary drives.  Once I sat down and thought about it I realized with 8 gigs of memory and two 64mb caches the overall ability of the Caviar is the better choice.  If I need to put on my Rodney Roadracer gloves I should add ssd, as required.

coolmasta:  Thanks for the link.
