My computer is sadly falling behind, actually has been for some time now and the time has finally come to get another rig. After doing research for the past week or so DS looks like my best bet for a pre-built.

I've now kind of got a general idea of what I'm looking for, but need some advice. Don't really have any specific questions, just looking for general input. Here's what I'm looking at:

Copy of Specifications:
Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932
Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish
Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish
Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache)
Motherboard: Asus P5Q3 Deluxe (Intel P45 Chipset) (Supports CrossFire)
System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ
Card Reader: - No Thanks
Hard Drive 1: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Hard Drive 2: - No Thanks
Raid Option: - No Thanks
Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks
Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition)
Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks
Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections)
Video Card: 2x CrossFire Quad (ATI Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB)
TV Tuner: - No Thanks
Sound Card: Razer Barracuda AC-1 (Recommended)
Extreme Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 3 WindTunnel (Copper Heatpipe Heatsink & Additional Case Fans)
Internal Lighting: - No Thanks
Modifications: - No Thanks
Boost Processor: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor
Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s)
Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory
Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts)
Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based)
Protection: - No Thanks
Office: - No Thanks
Benchmarking: - No Thanks
Install/Test Game: - No Thanks
LCD Display: - No Thanks
Surge Shield: - No Thanks
Speakers: - No Thanks
Keyboard: - No Thanks
Mouse: - No Thanks
External Storage: - No Thanks
Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty

I'll be getting a new monitor, 24". I enjoy all genre of games. I'd prefer to keep the price around what it is. I'm not a die hard ATI or Nvidia fan so whatever people feel is best right now.

One last thing to add is I have long work hours right now, so I probably won't get back to this threat until tomorrow evening and would appreciate patience on my non-speedy replies.

You might want to go with the X48 chipset in your mobo...and ticket number if you would.

If you won't want the liquid cooling, then drop it but go to stage 2 not 3, HAF is pretty much at stage 3 already.

with the HAF you either go stage 2 or liquid cooling

Thanks for the advice. Sorry about the ticket number I thought I had included it and I had already gone to bed.

I went with a sound card because some games seem to dislike onboard, specifically Oblivion. And with Fallout 3 coming soon, I'm worried about the same problem.

Also, is OCing worth it, will it provide a noticeable boost, how will it affect the lifetime of the chip?

well lets see, OC:

the q9650 stock speed is 3.0GHz.

the q9650 oc speed you can expect is around 3.8GHz or higher.

so its 3.0 vs 3.8GHz, is that a big difference? hell ya.

you can find more info on sound cards here
