Ok lets get a few things clarified.
1. there is no 1200p, are you referring to 1900 x 1200? or am I missing something? where did you get the idea that the more quiet 200mm fans of haf x are noisy or at least more noisy then the smaller louder 180mm fans of assassin? I do't know one haf owner that thinks its fans are loud, of all the haf owners we have here. just keep in mind the assassin is smaller, has less airflow and can be a pain to work in specially in sli. the noise package just slows down your fans giving you less airflow, most of your noise comes form the gpu's fan when under load anyways, and that does not get touched, nor do you want to keep that low when gpu is under full load. os tweak does nothing. what do you need win7 ultimate for? you are spending $2840 on that config with one gpu, I'm spending $9 more and getting, bigger case with much better airflow, sli 570 which is what you want for bf3 not to mention 3D: Here you go Ticket# 627829 --- $2,857 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: Blu-Ray Writer/Reader (Burn and Play Blu-Ray Discs) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans: haf 200mm non led fan Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc. Having said all of that, I suggest you go with 580 sli for 3D instead of 570. Edited by DST4ME - 04 Dec 2011 at 8:22pm |

Thanks DST4ME, this is really helpful!
You're right, I meant 1900x1200. That's what my current monitor does. When I upgrade to a 3D monitor later, I assume it will likely be 1900x1080 or 1900x1200. I already have a single Evga GTX 570 at home, so I would be adding that to make SLI from the start. But if you think 580 SLI is that much better for 3D gaming, I'll consider it instead. For noise level, I was going by the graphs DigitalStorm has on the select screen. The red bar for "Noise Level" is 3 times bigger on the Dreadnought over the Assassin. The Win 7 Ultimate is a rather inexpensive upgrade. I figured I'd rather have more features & not need it, rather than in the future want some feature & not have it with just Home. I thought the XP mode might help some older games to be able to run. |

I would never tell somebody with 570 to drop and go sli 580, the difference is not that much/worth it.
take those charts and comments like "good", 'better", "best" with a grain of salt, look at the review section and show me one user that said their haf x was loud. keep in mind, bigger fans move slower but because they are bigger they more more air, so in general all things being the same a 200mm fan moves more air then a 120mm fan and does it with less noise, so when comparing haf x 's quiet 200mm fans to the smaller 180mm fans of assassin you will find the fans are more quiet, assassin is more closed so overall sound maybe a little less but very little, however its smaller and has less airflow. As I mentioned 95% of your noise comes from gpu's fans when under full load so other sounds next to that are nothing to being with. Also the case is probably on low fan settings, with fan on full the noise would not be better then haf x or that much better. just go with pro, ultimate has nothing you would need, pro has more then you need and xp mode and etc, I doubt you will ever need to use it. |

Cool, I really appreciate the help & feedback!
I like your configuration then (minus a 570 so I can add mine) and make the notes you suggested. That'll save a bit from my original config. More towards the 3D monitor budget. I would say idling noise is more important to me over the GPS under full load. When gaming I usually have the sound system cranked up, or headphones on. Fan noise isn't that big of a deal then. For just surfing/working it would be nicer to have it as quiet as possible when idle. I'm glad to hear nobody complains about the HAF noise-wise. Like I said, I was just going on their graphs. Now I know better. |
