If you want a computer to last 5 years I would recommend a desktop because of the upgrades.

Yeah, that makes sense, but I really want a laptop for the sake of portability.  Do Digitalstorm laptops have upgradeable GPUs and CPUs?  Also, would this laptop be able to run Crysis on medium settings and Fallout 3 on high?

Personally I like my laptops to have more then a 1 year part warranty.

I dont' believe they will upgrade gpu on laptops, not sure about cpu either but that at least we can do ourselves.

laptops are not best for gaming and crysis needs lot of gpu power, more then what a laptop has if you want highest settings and good aa.

Hmmmm...I know absolutely nothing about desktops, so could someone please construct a custom build to fit these requirements?

Budget: $2000
Resolution:  I will need to get a monitor, preferably an 18.5in. from Digitalstorm.
Games:  Crysis on high, Fallout 3 on high, games for the next 5 years

2,000 is a really tight budget for a comp that will have you busting out high on crysis and last for 5 years, we'll see what pops up

alright, i think you'll be siked about this:

PC Price: $1934

Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - HAF 922
Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz (Quad Core)
Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire)
System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested)
Power Supply: 750W Digital Storm Certified (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition Recommended)
Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x)
Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology)
Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors)
Chassis Airflow: Upgrade Chassis With Zalman Performance Fans (Up to 6 Fans)
Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended)
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition)
Install/Test Game: FREE: Hot-selling game with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 or higher
Display: !PROMO BUNDLE: Acer 22 inch LCD + Logitech (Keyboard + Mouse) + Logitech Speakers
Warranty: 3 Year Limited Warranty with Life-Time Customer Support

id use the case fans option to have dso jack up the noctua and give you even better oc potential

also maybe use up some of the unused 5.25 slots up front for some extra wind

$66 dollars left in the budget, and shipping is $60 i think, at least to VA

ill take the $6 as a consultation fee! Embarrassed

That looks pretty awesome for the price, thanks.  I can always upgrade in the future, so the tight budget doesn't worry me so much.  Would a upgrade to the GTX 480 be worth going over budget?

Well no not really cos if you were to do that you would have to upgrade your power supply as it needs alot and that would increase the total price by about 400 dollars...

thats actually not correct, nvidia requires a minimum of 600w psu for a 480, 750 is more than enough, especially if you are not overclocking
if its in the budget, i would go for it.

that is the biggest gain the build i laid out could get for you at this time. honestly,if it were me in your place, i would get the 480 and find a monitor on newegg or a similar site. this will let you get very picky about exactly what you want and probably allow you to save money. the obvious exception here would be that if you get the monitor from dso it is covered under warranty ( im pretty sure, ask before you buy )

Check this out. There is no monitor in this configuration, for two reasons. With your budget it makes more sense to pick one up at a local store, because you have a wider selection, and because you save on the cost of shipping it.

That being said, I have two builds for you, one with NVIDIA and one with ATI.

We don't cover peripherals under our warranty. We have been known to work things out with customers in certain situations, but no, its not part of the warranty.

well thats a pretty loaded question :)

between the my/sarah build and the ati build, i would pick nvidia

i have actually been pouring over the stats/reviews on the 3 haf cases for a project im working on, and i think that the 932 and the hafx both have a lot to offer. until i see some more info on the haf x i really think the fight between the 2 will come down to preference. the x does look pretty freaking sweet i must admit

i will, though, retract my addition of the zalman fans to the haf case.
i would still go to an "individual upgrade request system"
maybe add a 5.25 just becuase of the amazing gains of the windtunnel effect,
and maybe add 2x120 or 1x200 side fan for extra gpu cooling. I dont know how many of the fan slots DSO fills up without requesting (this is all assuming haf 922)

in Sarah's builds, if you want go to cf/sli in the future then go with a bigger psu, for the ati build go with 1000w corsair, for nvidia go with 1250w enermax.

if you are not gonna go sli/cf then change the psu to 750w corsair, for psu here you want to go with brand names for better quality.

even their needs depends on the res, at lower res you don't need that much power to run them, but ya on high res they need some good gpu power.
