Budget:
$2,500 (have flexibility though) Expectations: A lot of the games I play are fairly processor intensive, but I still want to be able to play them with the graphics turned up. Usage: Typically will be for gaming and home use (internet, excel for budgeting, etc.). I play mostly grand strategy games by Paradox such as Hearts of Iron 4, Crusader Kings 2, Stellaris. I will also occasionally play Total War titles. Two things sticks out to me.
You can save money by downgrading the motherboard unless you have a reason for it. Also, your configuration has just one storage device, the 1TB Firecuda. I suspect that Cretae will come in and suggest the 520GB Firecuda and add a 2TB HDD for storage. However if you have a drive at home that you plan on adding as an additional drive, then that would make sense for your current storage configuration. |

I actually do not have a specific reason for the motherboard other than I didn’t like the astetics of the board it came with and a vague understanding that a quality motherboard is important (I’m sure the included option is better quality than what you would get from Alienware or anywhere like that).
I do not have another drive that I would use. So I am comfortable switching to the 500GB Firecuda and doing the included 2TB storage drive. I updated my build with your suggestions and came out with the below. I added a 2070 since the other changes would bring me below my budget including that. 3295436 https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=3295436 Specifications: Chassis Model: Digital Storm Lynx Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K (5.1 GHz Turbo) (16-Thread) (8-Core) 3.8 GHz Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS / MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE (Intel Z490) (Up to 3x PCI-E) (No SLI)
System Memory: 16GB DDR4 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (RGB Light Bar)
Power Supply: 850W Corsair / EVGA / Thermaltake (Modular) (80 Plus Gold)
Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: - No Thanks Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (500GB Seagate FireCuda 520) (NVM Express) (Gen4 PCIe)
Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba / Hitachi) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB (VR Ready)
Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (Dual Fan) (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance)
HydroLux Tubing Style: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected HydroLux Fluid Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected Cable Management: Exotic Cable Management - Black - (Cable Combs with Custom Color Sleeved Extension Cables)
Chassis Fans: Digital Storm Performance Series (RGB Fans) Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled Advanced LED Lighting System (Multiple RGB Color Modes) Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: Option Not Available Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU - Up to 4.7GHz on All CPU Cores
Boost Graphics Card(s): Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability
Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: USB Drive - Windows 10 Installation (Format and Clean Install) Virus Protection: Windows Defender Antivirus (Built-in to Windows 10) Office: - No Thanks Mouse Pad: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks Branded Gear: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, 6 Week Ship Estimate After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) |

Two more things.
It is generally recommended by most here to do NOT overclock the GPU. Only let them overclock the CPU. Second, do you plan on using this rig in a 1440p environment? If the answer is no then you can go back to the 2060 SUPER. If, however, the answer is yes then the 2070 SUPER will be great now, or a few years from now. Good luck. |

I currently have a 27inch 1080p monitor that I’ll most likely be keeping for awhile as I got in in February when my monitor I had for 10 years finally died. I could always upgrade the video card in the future if I upgrade my monitor. I’ll drop it back down to a 2060 Super and drop the OC on the GPU.

Works for me. Let Cretae look at in in the early morning and see what he says about it.

John18 has steered you to the optimal price/performance build for 1080p gaming!
I like the smaller NVMe SSDs simply because that's the drive you will scan regularly for viruses, malware, adware, etc. Those scans will execute mostly in under 2 minutes on a compact NVMe, and I find that GLORIOUS after 35 years of enduring slow as molasses scans that could run up to 20 minutes or more. It also allows for faster back-ups of the whole primary drive. All this, to me, means I am more willing and able to keep my primary drive in top condition with a contemporary back-up should things go sideways. We don't favor the GPU overclock because more heat means the fans work more often, and on some GPUs, they are quite loud. The performance bump isn't all that much. Wise move to drop the 2070. The last thing you want to do is overspend there with a new line of more powerful cards arriving soon. The RTX 2060 SUPER is the top card for 1080p. |
