Below please find my proposed configuration, the items I'm clueless on are.

The case, I pick one at random, concerned most about noise is an overriding issue. I will be using LC and will OC. If I add extra fans again I'm concerned about noise level but I'm willing to add fans if warranted. If fans added which ones and how many? to minimize the noise but do a decent job cooling.

MOBO again picked one at random any suggestions?

Will plug RJ45 from cable modem into port on rig but I read about wireless card. I either have to add a wireless router for our home laptops or can I do the same thing with this wireless card? and which option is it? But I do want to have the desktop plugged directly into the cable modem for purposes of speed.

Many thanks.

you are better off connecting via lan directly to modem.

in a few month some really fast SSDs will come out, so for now go with a 500GB then when you get the SSD you can use the SSD as HDD1 and the rest as storage drives.

Thanks for the configuration, some additional information the kids will be watching Blu-Ray disks on a Samsung 30 inch display the 305T Plus. I  wasn't sure a single graphics card would handle the load of 30 inch. Also still wondering about the case if the one suggested is the "quietest" or what was the reason for it's selection?

Many thanks for your time.

no matter what case you pic, most of your sound is going to come from your GPU's fan.

the HAF has superior cooling, the 1050i is not the best case they have, it just costs more.

295 GTX is a dual card, this card is like 2 x 260+. As I mentioned one of them will run your resolution up to 2560 x 1600, if you are going to be at 2560 x 1600 or higher res then go with 2 x 295, or 3 x 285.

Thanks, very good answer, the first time I missed your note about about the faster HDD's. Plus the only gaming will be flight simulator, formula one racing simulator and maybe call of duty. Sounds like a single 295 GTX will be more than enough.

Only other concern is Vista is a 64-bit OS so it can address up to 8gig, do you think six will be enough? of course my current XP machine has 512k.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions they save me a decent amount of money.

zlinux, I suggest you double check and make sure the games you names do support sli, because if they don't then the 295 will not be much of use.

I know call of duty will take full advantage of it but I'm not sure fsx and formula one simulator do support sli.

if they they don't then you have to play them with one card and one card at 2560 x 1600 or above will not produce great experience.

you can always go with 3 x 285, and disable sli and just run off of one card for the games that don't support sli and then for games like call of duty you can enable sli and enjoy the heck out of that game at 2560 x 1600

but if fsx and formula one do support sli then 2 x 295 will be great
