Topic: Configuration Questions Posted: 04 Nov 2008 at 2:15am |
Specifications:
Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Motherboard: Asus P5E3 Premium WiFi-AP (Intel X48 Chipset) (Supports CrossFire) Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB Extreme Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 3 WindTunnel (Copper Heatpipe Heatsink & Additional Case Fans) I have some questions concerning the select components stated above. 1) Is the power supply sufficient to support two 4870X2 in cross-fire mode? (down the road consideration) a) can you even cross-fire this card? 2) With this mobo, if I decide to go nVidia down the road, can I use future nVidia products with this board? (obviously no SLI here given the chip set) a) Should I even be going with ATI? Sure they're on top right now, and at a lower price point, but it seems many games are "written" with nVidia in mind. 3) Is Air cooling going to get the job done? I'd prefer to stay away from liquid cooling for now. a) Is there a better case for air cooling than the one I've selected? Perhaps the DS 850si? Thanx in advance for any advice/experience you have! |

1) yes
1a) yes but you won't see a ton of performance gain as drivers are pretty sh*tty 2) yes, you just can't use SLI 2a) personal preference 3) yes assuming your ambient temperatures are reasonable 3a) the cm haf 932 is definitely one of the best cases out there right now |
