Topic: Configuration Posted: 19 Mar 2017 at 10:52pm |
Hi, I was just wondering if this config will be able to play games on 4k with good fps because I am thinking of buying a 4k monitor. Also, the cooling CPU + GPU, is that like a waterblock on the gpu? Thanks this is my first gaming computer.

Hi Alastorr......Looks like a strong build to me. Go for it.
I would, however, under Recovery Tools, select the CD option in case your drive ever dies. It gives you a CD for reinstall. You can download an ISO file from MS and burn it yourself, but it's not much extra here. That is a water block on the gpu. Good luck. Just noticed the overclock.....the 7700k Turbos to 4.5, so unless you select the OC to 5.0 then I wouldn't get it. Edited by bprat22 - 20 Mar 2017 at 3:15am |

I'm not sure what kind of overclock DS would give you. I usually stay away from oc'ing the video card, the improvement being only few percentage points, but they are made to overclock to some degree. Off the top I wouldn't.

It's really up to you. Overclocking does help by a few percentage points. The 7700k is capable of 5.0 overclock with the right chip, so that would be a decent bump. The gpu also gets a bump with overclock, I just don't know how much DS pushes it.
If it was me, I would select the stage 3 to 5.0 overclock with the better CPU cooler, and leave the video card alone. But that's me. |

I might just leave it at 4.5 ghz. Would my set up be able to tin 4k resolution with no problem?

The difference between an overclock of 4.5 and 5.0 wouldn't make a big difference so staying at 4.5 would be good to go. Your 1080 Ti will do a good job rendering a 4 K display. |

Hey, I just got an email I was wondering if this will cause me any problem in the long run and does that mean i cant monitor how fast my fans are and also do i have to reboot my system to change the fan speeds?
Here is the email: Unfortunately, per our testing department, the Digital Storm Thermal Management Control Board & Software is not compatible with the ASUS ROG Strix Z270I GAMING motherboard. The internal lighting will be managed with a remote control and the fan speeds can be adjusted in the BIOS screen |

You might want to differentiate between °C and °F... 60-65°f is not warm and 60-65°C is damned hot for a human (60°C = 140°F)... well, it is for this human as anything above 75°F makes me cranky. |

Anything pushing high 80s is a concern (°C) AFAIK.
I don't really think there is a minimum, but I'm not a cooling expert. |

Always use Celsius when talking temps. Just makes life easier and less confusing. We're all about less confusion.
I would think for a minimum, -273C, absolute zero, would be a problem. DS used to have a Cryo-Tec cpu cooling, thermo-electric cold plates, that could keep the cpu below 0 degrees C. Frost could build up. Just fun facts from the past. Snaike is right, who cares about min, the max should be 80'sC or less. With full water, the Hydro Pro, you'll probably stay in the 60's, but every rig is different. |

What do you guys recommend for a software that could compensate for the loss of thermal management that ds offer? Since my mobo is not compatible for it

Your Asus motherboard comes with AI Suite and other software that allows for fan control, overclocking, Sonic radar for gaming, LED on the mobo control, etc. It does a good job.
There's also SpeedFan, Bios...the list goes on. A quick Google will pull some up. Nothing installed when you get it will compensate for their thermal control, since they mount small thermal probes at various points inside the case for monitoring air temps. You could get a separate fan/thermal control device like Areocool, etc that mount in one of your 5.25" bays. It allows fans to be plugged in for control and has thermal probes to mount inside the case. But, who cares about air temps at various locals inside the case. If the cpu and gpu are running within a good thermal window then that's really all that matters. It is good for looks and fun I guess to monitor and watch, but no real purpose. I would think that once the fans are setup up most will not adjust or monitor them much after the novelty wears off. But that's me. I would rather spend the time gaming. |
