Hey, I have a question/comment on the configurator...
Looking at the solid state drives, based on what I was reading here, i went with intel, but in the configurator, the 64GB SSD for intel seems to be crazily priced... it is $400 more than the 80GB Intel SSD... it seems like that may be an error.
Also, I have already placed my order (It started going through stress testing on Saturday) and I am so excited. You make it very easy to order, and the forums have so much great information to help steer me in the right direction, so thank you very much!

No that price is about right. The 32GB and 64GB Intel selections are old SLC based enterprise SSDs. Much faster write speeds than their consumer MLC variants as well as much more wear longevity. The SLC technology was never developed nearly as hard as MLC, and the prices for SLC drives kind of stagnated and never came down in price. You need to be careful to mind what selections you make.
You didn't select the overpriced 64GB Intel X25-E (SLC) I hope? The 40GB or 80GB X25-M (MLC) selections are what you want. Or optionally the 32GB X25-E, which is normally very overpriced but recently DS has had a big sale on them with a fantastic price, making them a good alternative to the 40GB X25-M. |
