Topic: Connecting Side Panel FanPosted: 29 Nov 2011 at 11:39am |

I just received my desktop today and I'm finding it difficult to connect the side fan. The motherboard is ASUS P8Z68-V PRO.
The female 3-pin is connected to a male and female 4-pin connector. I can not find a place to connect either of the two. I can see a 3-pin slot for the fan on the motherboard, but the wires aren't long enough to reasonably reach the motherboard. |

Congrats on the new desktop
![]() Don't know your pc case, but the side fan doesn't hook to mobo in most cases. Not good to connect and disconnect from mobo every time a side panel is removed. Look for a loose cable to match your side fan laying just inside side panel opening, probably under or near HDD cages, or between ps and hard drive cages. DS usually runs a connector from behind mobo where ps cables flow, along the bottom to other side for side fan.

The case is Cooler Master HAF-X 942. I believe I found it behind the HDD cage. Now, I just have to figure out how to get to it. Seems tangled up far behind the HDD.

It should be fairly easy, sometimes the connector is just hiding. But, I'm glad that you got it sorted out!

I had the same issue, the connector was pushed a bit farther under the HD cage then I expected it too be. I just had to get down there with a little light and there it was. Happy that you found it and enjoy your new DS computer.

This must be something that depends on the specific people working on your machine. When I got my 942, the side fan cable had been twist-tied and tucked up into the rear of the machine. I had to take the back panel off to get to it. Took me a little bit to find it

Sounds like DS should hook a flashing LED to the plug. Turn the lights out, and there it is.

I was not expecting it to be that hidden. I was relying entirely on the DS youtube video on connecting the fan lol. Perhaps DS should update that video so that it's easier for noobies because it looked so easy. Thanks again for the the help and I hope to have a review up on this awesome system.
