Hi, With a I9 12th Gen CPU, 390 GPU, DDR 5 memory, & several peripherals, is a 850W PS sufficient ? Would their be a tremendous difference between a "GeForce RTX 3090 24GB Founders Edition", & "GeForce RTX 3090 24GB Performance Edition" for a an additional $600? Also, I don't see a manufacturers name listed. I never heard of the H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (Dual Fan) (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) that's offered. What's a stage 2? Size of fans? Can it be substitued for another brand? TIA for any comments. |

I think you'll be fine, but look for yourself:
https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator The 3090 is not a good card for gaming. The 3080 Ti is a better choice. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3080-Ti-vs-Nvidia-RTX-3090/4115vs4081 All PC builders are supplying whatever they can get from the broken supply chain. Naming the parts you might get isn't likely these days. Stage 2 refers to dual fans. They are 120mm. The word we have is thta DS buys there AIOs from the same factory Corsair uses. They don't make their own fans, either. Both companies just put their own brand on them. IDK if you can order another kind. It used to be doable for an extra fee, but these are different times. IMHO it's pretty unnecessary. You'll pay more, delay the build, and for what? It's not in DS's interest to use cheap parts they have to stand behind. An AIO isn't rocket science and many sellers don't make their own anyway. |

You could scrape by, however, a 1000 W power supply would be best. Intel Core i9-12900K NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (example) | OuterVision PSU Calculator
Probably not $600 difference. In actual usage, the graphics card will rarely push beyond the 350 W threshold (limit of dual 8-Pin PCIe connectors). In the Forza Horizon 5 benchmark below, you can see a 350 to 400 W usage, but that's with a card being pushed quite a bit. My 3090 FTW3 Ultra can maintain 2010 MHz GPU + 9700 MHz VRAM and not break 340 W. I did utilize EVGA's Precision X1's VF Curve Tuner to achieve that -- essentially by undervolting. So, the "Performance" cards would only be of any benefit if you intend to push them to the absolute edge. One more thing... Marketed boost values, whether by Nvidia or third-party board producers, are safe/minimum values. Most cards will automatically (i.e., default/stock settings) go beyond. Also, this next answer:
A better value for gaming. The 3080 Ti GPU bin is technically only ~2.5% less capable than the 3090. It gives us pleasure to perhaps dispel misunderstanding with accurate information. The decision is always up to you, but we hope to make it an informed one.

Keep in mind bobaz that if you can wait and can afford the price DS can get it for... and a particular branded part IS AVAILABLE on the current crazy supply market...DS can & will order whatever you want used for your build. You do have to ask DS Sales what's possible, but DS will build the rig you want.
