not a good build at all, you can spend your money better to get more for it and have the same or better performance, what is your budget? and what resolution will you be gaming at?

I'm figuring 4000 - bringing it down to about 3700 after discount. - not really into large monitors probably no more than 20 inches - resolution high. Would like to hold out for new nvidia fermi.
Thank you

Since your primary drive is only 160gb the secondary drive is 2 tb and good for storage/media etc...the secondary drive is also a really good fast drive much better than the 1tb 32mb cache drives Corsair 1000 PSU > Enermax and is MORE than enough for your need...enermax is overkill I put 1x 5870 in there which should be more than enough for max settingif you're gaming at a screen 20" or lower which will probably wont be 1900x1200 resolution. If you want you can get the system without a video card and order the fermi when it comes out and self install which is pretty easy to do The Asetek liquid cooling system is pretty crappy. The Air stage 2 Noctua D14 will give better temps. Boost OS won't do much for you and could potentially cause problems (with the SSD drive for your Operating system it'll be fast as hell already) DS doesn't overclock the cards much to notice any difference from what I hear and you wont see more than 1-2 fps gains in exchange for more heat. |

with a 20" monitor, you will not need a Fermi, a 5850 will max out any game out there is now, or in the foreseeable future.
cheebamaster's build is ok, drop to a 5850 and a 750 watt power supply.
Corsair over Enermax, that is just opinion, no truth, the Enermax Evo is a good power supply and if this rig was to ever run 3 GPU's it would be much preferred over the Corsair, because of cross loading issues with 3 cards.

My girlfriend is set on - 2 nvidia gtx 285 video cards
what about stepping down on the second hard drive?
If I had my way I like the Hailstorm case
Ultimately I would like to build my own I can do the work but coming up with a parts list is my stumbling block
Have my eye on an MSI - Big Bang fuzion
And last but not least
Thank You both very much I like both of your ideas especially the SSD drive

2 285's would be just a pain in the butt with that build, do one, and that is overkill for that monitor size

as justin said, your monitor's res is only at 1600 x 1200 to run games at highest settings all you need is 1 x 5850.
some info I'm an nvidia fan but I'm a fan of performance first. 285 does not support dx11,this means that games that are dx10 or dx11 will have much better peformance with the 5850. 285 is only about 4 fps better then a 275, in short when you get a 285, you are spending lot of money for no reason. at your res, if I came in the middle of the night and removed one of the two 285-s you would never know the difference. at your res, if I came in the middle of the night and changed one or two 285-s to a 275 you would never know the difference. the same goes for changing the 285 with a 5850. in short why spend so much money and get less performance/same performance? whatever you want to pull out of the other pcs (HDD, media drives, etc) will all work in the new one. you can use your 8800 for physx if you like. this system will give you all you need and remember: HDD1 = fast drive: os/apps/games HDD2 = regular large drive: media/personal/work file storage Don't fill up your HDD1 more then 50%, if think you will need more room for it then pick a bigger one. also his res should be more like 1600 x 900 or 1440 x 900 so a 5850 will rape games at tht res. I know some monitors have different res for the same size, but he did say max of 20"

Those are all good ideas and you have got me thinking. At that price I could easily spend a bit more. I don't like "Sale items" usually means soon to be discounted would you like to tweak it a bit with say another 4 to 5 hundred? Thank you for your time and effort

PS
I really like what you have put together. I've done the math and could go as high as $3500 with or without discount. Keep in mind that I may not be able to spend this kind of money in the future so I am trying to get the latest things now . That is why I may wait for Fermi
Thank you very much

there will be no performance change so honestly I got nothing to add that you will see a difference from.
fermi is a bit away like a month or so. the x58 is a great board, the next one up from it is the classified, for your use you will see no difference from it. |
