What's the stance on this these days?  Is it better to keep your PC constantly turned on with occasional restarts, or is it better to let it shutdown during periods of prolonged disuse?

shut the dang thing down lol, you're killing its life, and machines tend to go a leetle happy and do things unsupervised, say, getting infected with a virus, installing a million updates, trying to do something it can't that you know it can't but it doesn't know it can't, tec.

Yeah I agree.  Most of us work or go to school there is 8 hrs.  Then sleep another 8 hrs. So why have your PC on for 16 hrs at least being unused?

sleep/standby if you want, but there have been way too many issues with sleep and X58 systems... just shut her down. IMHO
