This is more of a question for the DS guys I think.

The case I am choosing only comes with 3 fans but has room for many additional ones (the Raven 3). If I buy the performance fan upgrade will DS only replace the factory fans or can I request them to be placed where I want them.

The case has room for 6 additional fans but I do not want that many. Two in the front, one on the clear window and one on the back. That set up has amazing cooling and is exactly what I am looking for.

If you are going with sli setup, that is not great airflow, also the fans that DS uses are very loud.

for sli best option is a good big fan like a 200mm blowing air over them, and since heat rises you want go amount of air suction on top to help the rising hot air on its way out, haf x does this best by having two 200mm fans on top sucking the hot air out, and a 200mm fan on the side blowing air right over the gpus.

if you still want to go with raven, IMHO find your own 120mm fans with good airflow and not a lot of noise.

Not really most of those suckers are loud, there are quiet ones like Nexus 120mm Real Silent case fan - D12SL-12.

Just looked those up on Newegg and they do have good reviews. How does it work if I want to purchase 3 of these and have them installed with my build?

you can do it yourself or request DS to get them and install them or get them and have them shipped to DS to install.
