Anyone know of a good link to an explanation of the differences between Core i5 and i7? Just curious why Intel is making this move so soon, relatively, since i7 was introduced. Thanks,

So if you run SLI with a core I5-700 series and you're only getting 2x8 how does that stack up to running a single version of the same card at 1x16?

At first I was concerned that my new i7 was gonna be obsolete however the more I read I think all this Intel stuff means more choice for those of us that bought the i7 with the 1366 socket. I'm figuring this because of the i9's comming out and how they will fit with the 1366. I'm hoping the i9 won't be too costly for those who like their motherboard and just wanna upgrade or replace processor.
lol, I'm a newb so i could be off on all this.

i9 will be $1000+.
Personally I wish I had waited for the i5 750, it clocks just as well as the 920, and the performance is nearly identical. In regards to the 2x8 or 1x16, if you're getting any card besides the 295, you will not see a major difference in framerates with 2x8 versus 2x16. Though even with 2x295 in 2x8, Vantage score I got today with the i7 750 @ 4ghz was ~P32000 which is not bad at all. Keep in mind if you are looking to buy a system that the EVGA P55 LE only has ONE 16x slot while the other is 4x. Edited by venom - 10 Sep 2009 at 11:22pm |

Ouch! on the i9 lol. As newb I can't kick myself for not waiting for the i5 so I won't. The difference between what I know now and 2 months ago is very large.
Is intel dropping the i7 with 1366 socket/X58 chip? I read some forum speculating to that effect.

No they are keeping the LGA1136 socket with the X58 chipset, but they are going to discontinue the i7 920 and i7 950 soon.

No official price yet that I have seen, but my guess would be around $600 for the i7 960.

I guess that does stink a bit. If I wanted to replce my CPU and not mobo I'd have to pay a bunch. I'm hoping my System lasts several years without such upgrades. Just gonna get another GTX 275 to run in SLI thats all. |

According to the EVGA website the LE board has 2 x x8 and 1 x x4 slot?
Just want to clarify so somebody doesn't get a motherboard that won't run what they want it to run.
I check on newegg and they're listing it as having 2 x x16 PCI slots. I'm thoroughly confused.
