I've been searching the web for overclocking results that compare the 965 to the 920. I haven't had much luck yet. Basically I'm wondering how much better the 965 will be when used in a liquid cooled system. Does anybody know?

965 is easier to overclock due to it's multipliers being unlocked. 4GHz should easily be guaranteable =x
920 has locked/limited/capped multipliers for the core, uncore, qpi, memory, and whatever I didn't mention. 4GHz is possible but a 200 bclock is pretty high (most boards afaik cap out at around 240) and is very tricky to get it stable when all the multipliers are so limited. Yeah the 965 is an easier overclocker and it'll get the most out of liquid cooling.
But you don't need over 4ghz for games, the GPU(s) will be preventing any performance increases. |
