Sup guys, I haven't been on in a while, but I have a question. (I was probably still an AMD fanboi back when I last posted )
Basically, I can't get past 4ghz no matter what I've tried. I've bumped vcore all the way to 1.45 (watercooled). BCLK over 160 causes some BSODS, yet passes stress testing. I've tried raising the multiplier, but whenever I stress test, the multi always drops back down to stock (25, and yes Turbo is dissabled). What the heck do I need to change to push this chip more? Did I really just get that bad of a chip? Full specs just in case: Core i7 980x @ 4.0GHz w/ HT 12 GB Gskill DDR3 1600 @ 6-8-6-20 2 EVGA Geforce GTX 480s @ 900/1800/2000 Asus Rampage II Gene x58 Silverstone Strider+ 1000 Da Box mATX case Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |

There are a whoooole lot of settings and voltages that may need to be tweaked to get it stable, not just vcore. And it could be memory settings as well.
Write down the blue screen codes when you get them? That lets you zero in on what setting needs to be changed. |

Yeah... I know there is something to get the system to halt on BSOD, but I forget where it is. Mind helping me out on that?
I'm still a little fresh to OC.... never tried to push anything past 4ghz, which really only needs a Vcore bump for stability. |

Really only needs vcore my butt. If that was all you had to tweak then you wouldn't be blue screening, now would you?
Besides if you're changing the BCLK that means you're changing the CPU and memory speeds, so you may have to adjust memory settings for stability as well. Hm, my blue screens usually always stayed and I could write down the code to reference with my list or look up online. Failing that perhaps a tool like WhoCrashed to check the crash logs? |

I'm at 4ghz stable on my 980x with only a vcore bump.
I'm at 4ghz stable on my 920 with only a vcore bump. I'm now trying to get PAST 4ghz, that's where I need the help. Stopped being lazy and figured out how to halt BSOD, now if I get another I'll report back as they are highly irregular. BCLK is at 160, Puts the Memory at ~1200, when it's rated at 1600. It's also running loose at 8-8-8-24, so I doubt that's the issue. I'll tweak that once I get the CPU clocked. Edited by Zurginator - 14 Aug 2010 at 12:40am |

im really interested to hear what tests you consider stable, and what your stats look like if all youre changing is blck and vcore
is your ram on auto? lol

Currently I'm running 10 sets on Intel Burn test w/ 12 threads and 'high'. Once I settle on something with that I'll run Linpack overnight.
Additionally, I finally passed 4.26ghz. Multipliers still won't work for me though. |

Maybe he should have gotten an EVGA motherboard.

Multipliers.
Stock multi on here is 25. I can set it to whatever number I want, when I put it under IBT, it goes to 25. Also I have an EVGA board. Feature-wise.... the Asus slaughters it. Warranty wise, the Asus wins. Support wise, the Asus slaughters it. |
