Core i7 Extreme 975 and Core i7 950 now available
In stock as of this morning Some good news for enthusiasts and new adopters of the Core i7 platform is the fact that the new Core i7 Extreme 975 and Core i7 950 processors are now available at a few online US retailers as of this morning. As we mentioned back in February, both processors are to serve as replacements for the existing Core i7 Extreme 965 and Core i7 940 at higher clock speeds, a new stepping revision, and the same respective price points. The 950 model runs at 3.06GHz, roughly 130MHz faster than its 940 predecessor, and is priced again at $562 in quantities of 1000. Likewise, the Extreme Edition 975 model runs at 3.33GHz, roughly 133MHz faster than its 965 predecessor, and is priced again at $999 in quantities of 1000. So far, Pennsylvania-based site CostCentral currently lists the boxed retail i7-975 (BX80601975) for $1,135.12 with free shipping, and with 25 in stock at press time, but it got sold out in the mean time. It also lists the boxed retail i7-950 for $636.68 with free shipping, and with 449 in stock. |

I'm sure it will be availabel within a week on the config page, they have to get the chips which I'm sure they have and then they have to wait for intel's release date.
the 950 and 975 have the new stepping as the new 920, if you will. |

New 920? Is there going to be a new 920 chip released? I'm thinking maybe I should put my order on hold and ask them to hold it until the new chip is released. Is the new 920 that much better than the current model? Could someone let me know? I would appreciate it.

inferno23 we try to make sure the info we pass to customers are facts not opinions, and if we are not sure then we should not put that info out there.
the 920 and 940 both have unlocked qpi and can use the same ram speed as 965. we take pride in providing only facts as much as possible and we appreciate you trying to help, just please try and keep to the facts. |
