ok, when i run prime 95 my cores are getting really hot like nearly 80 degrees.I have an overclocked core i7 920. I have a cooler master v8, but how do you check to see if the fans are running at 100% or not? there is a nob at the back of the cpu but im not sure if turning it does anything, it doesnt sound any differant thats for sure. Is there another way to adjust the V8 speed at all? Sorry Im a complete newb at this!

if your temps are the same after playing your games then 80c for max is ok.

if they go over 85c you need to call DS.

yes the nob at the back of the cpu is the fan controller for the v8, set it on high and leave it there if you like and see if it makes a difference in temps.

also check your temps in the bios, the bios is never wrong

Im using HWMonitor. Yeah it doesnt hit 85, just stays near or around 80. Another thing when I use Furmark to test the gpu temp, it was going at 95 degrees and probably rising after just 5 minutes..so I closed the program. I'm not sure if that is normal for gpu temps using the extreme burning mode on furmark. It seems all my temps are just kinda high for my likeing.

you are pushing your temps to the max, you should expect hi temps, this is were LC woudl show its difference.

here is the thing, unless you are using this pc for benchmarking, you are good to go, what counts is that your pc is not running hot, while you are using it for things you do on it.

you are doing your stuff, games and etc and it does not hit 85, this means you are good to go.

you can adjust the v8 fan to higher if you like to see if it helps your cpu temps.

you can ajust your gpu fans to 80 or 90% to see if it helps with your gpu temps.

Thanks DST. You seem to really know your stuff, which I'm happy about, cause I really am a newb at all this. Good to know their are knowledable people on here! I understand now with the temps. With the V8 at max my temps were much better. I'll just leave it at around 50-60% since I wont really be doing any other benchmarking, just the normal everyday stuff for now! thanks alot man.

Also, to add a tiny footnote to DST4ME's perfect answer, the GPUs are made to run a little hotter than the CPUs without it being a major problem in their functioning. So, no worries.

My other footnote would be to say, the knob that controls your V8 fan speed should just be turned all the way up (to the right - clockwise as I recall) and just left there. The sound difference, as you discovered, is negligible between full speed and half speed. Since it makes no difference in the sound, might as well offer your CPU full speed fan cooling all the time, right?
