Third day on computer, Assassin build. Today I turn it on, and the a70 CPU cooler seems to be on ultra-high speed and is very noisy.
I downloaded something like 80 critical updates to Windows yesterday -- could this have done something? |

I'm waiting on one of the guys to call me back now. Speedfan confirms that the CPU fan is at just under 2000 RPM, which is what it should be. It's simply making too much noise, the motor in it. |

Trench, if DS fixes this a70 problem let us know if you could. I and lots others have it and the info could come in handy.
Thanks.

Is your CPU fan plugged into an adapter that plugs into the motherboard?

I can't tell what the CPU fan is plugged in to. I see a big metal fan thing that is the A70, attached to the motherboard. Sorry I can't provide better answer. |

Someone from D.S. called. He kept telling me 1) he understands the problem and 2) how it's important to monitor the CPU temp.
The CPU is 60 degrees. It's 75 degrees room temp. The CPU temp is not the problem. Speedfan says the RPM is at 2000, which is at spec. The problem is that at 2K RPM, it is loud. He seemed to want to get off the phone. I can understand, as it was at that point 5:15 p.m., after his shift. I said, "I appreciate the call, but it seems you want to get off the phone, and we haven't accomplished anything." He went to consult with a "senior tech." He returned and had me set the BIOS so that the CPU fan was "enabled" and then set the fan monitoring speed to "standard." (Asus Deluxe.) This didn't change anything. He said that the fan will run higher when it feels the need to cool the CPU, or somesuch. The temp is not the problem! I was getting nowhere. So I volunteered, "Um, okay, should I just keep an eye on it through the weekend?" "Yes! Keep an eye on it through the weekend. I will call you on Monday." Calling me back right before end of shift: A+. Solving the problem: F. I suspect the A70 unit itself is at fault. Edited by Trench - 21 Oct 2011 at 8:48pm |

i would try not to use it until you can get in touch with someone from digital storm. I would send an email to alex([email protected]) explain the situation and he will take care of you. |

It jumped to 124C, seen on both Speedfan and MW Monitor. It did same thing this morning; I thought it was errant reading at the time (only using Speedfan at the time). Edited by Trench - 23 Oct 2011 at 4:58pm |

are you sure it was C?(if it really hit that temp i wouldnt even turn it on) No one says you cant be upset but hardware fails and honestly digital storm cant control that stuff. Send him another email/ask to speak to someone else and they will resolve the issue. |

Your a70 sounds like has gotten damaged during shipping, you can't blame DS for that, blame the shipping company, on top of that as rice said, parts go bad all the time, my mobo crapped out on me like a week after I got my pc, I had to send it back.
In short let them take it back and fix and send it to you. |

CPU is showing occasional, inconsistent "124C" from both Speedfan and CPUID Hardware Monitor (CPUID installed on advice of Alex). Even without a CPU cooler, that is absurd. Yeah, okay. I guess I'll send it back. To go across the country not once but three times. Edited by Trench - 22 Oct 2011 at 2:39am |

Forget speed fan, its temps are not accurate.
can you give us a screen shot of your hwmonitor? something about 124c does not sound right, as rice said it should shutdown before you got there. |

why is the image so small, also looking at hw, I dont think you are looking at cpu temp.
we need a bigger pic of the hwmonitor, tell me how you took the screen shot, so I can help you make it bigger. |

I hit "Prt Sc" key on keyboard. I have the image large right here, in "clipboard". How do I post it? I am so close to calling credit card company to negate this purchase. I've spent three days (and 3K) on this. Now I have to learn the subtleties of how to post a screenshot to convince those who would help that I am not lying. |

I'm not saying you are lying, I like to see the temps for myself so I can see if there is anything else and double check and make sure you are looking at the right temps.
after you have the image in clipboard, open paint and paste it in paint, from there save it and then upload it here. to take a screenshot of just the hwmonitor put cursor on it and hold alt key then push print screen, this will take a screenshot of just the app window and not the whole desktop. Of course. I'm frustrated. Spent all this money for a good build. A worry-free build. I don't have a lot of money -- this is my one vice, gaming. Plus I work at home, so it double has to work. So I chose Digital Storm. I did this one, big purchase. First the crimped cables (another post); now, worse, this.
Thanks. Edited by Trench - 22 Oct 2011 at 5:55am |

from my understanding from reading reviews in this forum..that 124C on cputin can be ignored..there're a lot of people that posted screenshot of their temp with the hwmonitor that shows cputin at that temperature as well

this is a perfect example Trench of why we need to look at the screenshot, you are looking at the wrong reading, cputin is not the cpu temp, and its a false reading.
your cpu temps are core temps, your cpu has 4 cores and each of those core's temps are listed separately, your highest core temp/cpu temp is 30°. of course those are idle temps and idle temps don't matter much unless they are too high, in this case they are normal, to really check your cpu temps you need to put the pc under stress and then check the core max temps. I don't think your A70 is damaged. I have a Corsair A70 too. You just need to put connect your fan plugs into a Y-shape low RPM adapter then plug that into the motherboard.

But it wasn't (I assume) doing this at Digital Storm.
So the answer is to physically limit it to 1600 RPM, or "low speed"? And, ugh, plug something into my motherboard. Edited by Trench - 23 Oct 2011 at 4:57pm |

If noise of fan bothers you the only thing to do is to lower it, however it was not this loud until you made your windows upgrade right? if that is the case then something must have gone wrong.

Is shouldn't sound like a refrigerator, ever. Except for fact it is defective.
If I was playing Crysis on a screen the size of my living room wall, the thing shouldn't be so loud that I can hear it upstairs on the other side of my house. If this is how it sounds on "high," then I don't want it. But it's not supposed to sound like this on high. Edited by Trench - 24 Oct 2011 at 12:47am |

Hello everyone, sorry for my late reply, I've been away for the past 3 days for Blizzcon with our team. @Trench, From my understanding, the A70 began to be louder after you completed Windows updates or after the third day. Can you explain how it's loud, does it sound like a high airflow noise like a house fan on a fast speed, or, does it sound like a grinding noise like a bearing being bad, or, does it sound like a clicking noise as if one of the fan blades is hitting a wire or something? If it's just a lot louder, like a high airflow, adding a fan RPM limiter can quickly slow the fan down. Unlicensedhitman posted a great image of those black connectors. We're more than happy to help you with this and walk you through the process, it shouldn't take more than five minutes. Feel free to email us directly: [email protected] and we can help you setup an appointment with a technician.

I can't say for 100% that it happened after the updates. The first day I was mad about the way it was put together, and I didn't have it on for long. The second day I was in and out of the backyard, lots of ambient noise, just checking on the MS updates. So let's not lock ourselves in to in being because of updates.
To answer your question about loud: it is a loud fan. No clicking, no bearing going bad, no grinding. The case fans above and below it purr quietly. It sounds exactly like a small crappy fan turned up way high. But it's not a crappy fan, and it's not exceeding 2K rpm (where it's supposed to be). I listened to the A70 on Youtube from two diff people: you could barely hear it when the camera was up to the outside of the computer. I don't see why everyone is saying to turn the speed down. I want it to work at its default setting, quietly, like it is for everyone else. Edited by Trench - 24 Oct 2011 at 12:44am |

The A70 isn't really a quiet fan. To some, like the YouTube videos, it seems quiet, but to others (especially in a very quiet room) it can seem loud.
The RPM limiters will definitely take care of this for you. In addition, your CPU temps are really good, you can definitely slow the fan down with no issues.
