Hey all,

I'm looking to replace a 3.5yr old Core 2 Duo with something quiter, faster, and better graphics. The games I play on it are World of Warcraft and Civ. Everything else is productivity, media streaming, and occasional remote access. I'm looking for something to last me another 3.5 years. I'm currently running Win7 on an SSD and may bring move that config over to the new system in the end. I've also got a seagate 1 TB and a pioneer DVD writer with litescribe that I would move to the new system. I also run 11n in the house and have an external adapter I would use with this system.

I'm thinking I want USB 3.0, ESATA ports, and good audio on the motherboard and good enough graphics for the next gen MMOs coming out in the fall (SW:TOR, DCU, or WoW). Otherwise, just looking for decent power (current one bogs down A LOT), room for growth, and QUIET. My current machine is pretty loud for its size.

Here's the config I've got saved. Any advice that would make it better and lower or keep the price in line is appreciated. Thanks!

What is your monitor's maximum resolution and what is your budget?

I have 2 24" Dell 2408 monitors. Native resolution on each is 1920x1200.

I'd like to stay around $2k or so unless I can really justify it.

do you think those video cards would be ok with those monitors? I like dual screens and was thinking I might run a game full screen in one while surfing the web, etc. in the other.

thoughts?

I wouldn't recommend 5850s at all, especially not dual ones. For budget cards the 460 provides about the same performance for a lot less, but I wouldn't recommend dual those either. Dual 460s can out perform a single 480 in average FPS a little bit but they sacrifice minimum FPS by a lot, and some games just don't play well with multi GPU setups at all. So a single 480 is preferable, the minimum FPS rate is much better so game play is a lot more fluid with similar minimum and average FPS rates.

And a single 480 does dual screens just fine for gaming on one and using the other for web surfing and the like.

For 1920x1200 resolution and that budget I'd go with:
