Due to recent events, (see Threads on temp)  I have decided that I may need to update my CPU Cooler.  Very interested in the Zalman CNPS9500 LED Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler which looks great and gets some great reviews.  Any comments or suggestions on this...comparing it to my current Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro.  Or, are there any better CPU Coolers that may be even better than the Zalman 9500 which seems like it will do a much better job with not only keeping the cpu cool, but also the board.

This is a huge concern as I am buying new ram...at least 8500, (using the 6400 now) so that I can get more out of my current oc'ing.  And no I do not want to resort to LIQUIDDead unless I have to.  Thanks again DS...I love this stuff & especially my DS gaming monster.

ps...are the DS T-Shirts out yet?

see the above previous thread
I am running at about 50C and above...and that's at idle.  I just haven't been very impressed with the Freezer Pro 7...feel like I'm running hot.

CPU is Kentsfield QX6700 oc'd to 3.33 w/ fsb of 1333.  still kind of newb so not sure what vcore is, but I work great under instruction.  Kelly oc'd my cpu for me via phone.

go into your BIOS and look under System Monitor.

it's listed as CPU Core.

what's your room temp? that is pretty hot =\

have you tried remounting it?

I agree...my room temp is only 70F....what do you mean by remounting?  My computer sits on my desk.  Just went to the BIOS...

CPU 59C
Board 35C
MCP 51C

CPU Core 1.33V
CPU FSB 1.38V

again...these temps are from my BIOS, not an app.

Pretty sure those temperatures are due to a bad installation.

Do a remount before purchasing a new heatsink. Remounting means reinstalling the heatsink.

So the first step is to remove the heatsink and clean off the thermal paste on the CPU & heatsink with 90%+ alcohol or arctic clean 1&2. Once clean, re-apply the CPU with thermal paste(recommended AS5 or MX2). And finally install the heatsink and look at BIOS for temperatures.

note: if you do decide to get a zalman 9500, the installation is a pain in the butt as it requires you to take out the motherboard.

yeah I figured the install for the 9500 would not be easy, but if I need to do all this work anyway...might as well go for it.  thanks again skyR

Anyone know or think of a better CPU cooler than the Zalman 9500?

Might as well take a look at the finish on the HSF while you have it off too. I've heard of some of the AC7's coming through with a slightly rough mounting plate.

Take a look at the Zalman CNPS9700 or Thermaltake V1.
