D14...It doesn't get to hot in this room in the summer, but it can get hot sometimes..I don't have a AC unit in here...I am only going for the basic overclock,so would that be over kill?..I'm all about keeping my CPU cool and a long life, but if its overkill,I'll take that $ and put it into something else..If its a good idea and worth it then I will do it..

I think u12 and d14 are gonna make a 3c difference, maybe, could be less.

If your going with a basic overclock you can go with air and save yourself a lot of money since liquid cooling is not necessary. Get a Noctua cooler and call it a day.

After reading the sub zero is looking like a good option..I am sure it will be quieter too..which could be nice..If I do that cooling option I was also thinking of upgrading my option to the stage 1 overclock or maybe the stage 2..I need someone to help me make up my mind...

if you have the money go with it! but you don't need it. all you need is the noctua u12p and stage 1 oc and thats pretty much as high as the cpu can go without other hardware slowing it down. keep in mind you can have a super high oc on the cpu and the hdd read speeds, ram speeds ect will slow you down.
a computer is only as fast as its slowest piece of hardware. |

You know,ya get all wrapped up in trying to choose the right this and the right that and you get lost sometimes in all of it...Which I was until the last line of your post..Thanks man, that kinda brought me down to earth..Thats the advice I was looking for I suppose...Now if I go with the free overclock I could just get air cooling.Seeing how I am not getting a SSD,just the 7200rpm model...After reading up on the Nocturas they seem to be a really solid option for cooling..However why not go with the d14?..It seems like a better cooling solution than the u12..More heat pipes larger fan yadda yadda...Seems like no one likes it though...

well its a good cooler just not price effective. here most of us will try and give you the best bang for your buck build and its no doubt the best air cooler but $100 more for slightly better. you will probably get a 3.9 overclock on the u12p so it won't matter.

w/e i don't check the prices that much still its a very slight difference in cooling power but its your call. its $55 for a few degrees cooler which in turn will do almost nothing.

You dont want d14 cause you don't need it, as mentioned the u12 will give you 3.9GHz easy and with great temps and will do it quietly.
90% of the noise of your pc will come from the gpu's fans under load. |

Oh, just adding a +1 for the Noctua coolers being extremely quiet, definitely don't worry about noise there. I have one and I never hear it, ever, the GPU fans do all the talkin' as DST4ME mentioned.

@Davis, we use the thermal paste from the Noctua cooler. Their thermal paste is actually quite good.

@RiceEatin2000GT, yes it can, but I still don't recommend it.
