I will be overclocking my cpu and I game in a small hot room. What is the best program/application for monitoring internal temperatures in my rig as I see that the temperature display enhancements are not recommended.

The 1156 socket is newer than the 1366 socket.

wait why are the new 980x chips running on 1366 and the 875 runs on 1156 which is more powerful 9 series or 8 series? Also why are DS p55 builds more affordable than x58? You just totally confused me.

The 1366 socket (x58) platform is more powerful, and came out first. The 1156 socket (P55) came out later and is kind of a watered down version targeted at mainstream use.

The 9 series is more powerful than the 8 series.

Ok so will sandy bridge, estimated to release early 2011, surpass 1366 or is it looking to be mainstream as well.

LGA1155 is destined to be mainstream, near current i7 levels, by technical specs. Not sure about overclocking wise. LGA 2011 is destined to replace LGA 1136, and is for high end computing with a max of 16 threads via HT for that high end desktop line specifically.

1366 isnt a processor its a platform

platform 775 and a q6600 is still a capable gaming setup, stop stressing about it, just buy what you can afford now and enjoy

Every individual processor will have different tolerances, but you shouldn't have a problem hitting at least 3.8 ghz and will probably be able to go even higher.

It will be my first overclock and I can't afford to blow the processor.

what i think he meant is that there is no "overclock this chip exactly like this"... its an art kinda, theres no right way, and every chip will reach different limits, different temperatures, etc
the hottest i would let one get is 80ish as a safe range, i believe the DSO website has 90c posted as the max safe cpu temp somewhere. ive been to 88 (yikes) but its just undue to put that much strain on your chip, id try and stay below 80 load.

contact dso or have them post directly before you make a choice on your limitation imo
