Hi All;

Working on the config for a new pc. As we all are, I'm on a budget. I am a casual/mid level gamer ( no mmorp yet). My question is-where do I put my $?

In the cpu or the video card. Do I go or a "lower" CPU & a "higher"video card?

Example:CPU choice

E8400Duo or E8600 (+$138) Duo or Quad 9550 ($184)

Video: 1x9800GT/512mb or 1x 9800GTX/512(+$97) or 2x9800GT (+$156) or 1x GTX260/896 mb (+$226) .

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

For gaming, you should always spend more on the GPU than the CPU.

Thanks DST4ME for your reply.
I would like to keep the cost to about $1500 +/-. (ticket 216581)

I am a casual gamer--at 1650x1050.

I'm stuck with the question of "go up with the cpu (lets say the Q9550 & keep the video at the Geforce 9600gt.  or  drop the cpu down to the E8400 & up the video to GTX 260.

What are your thoughts on Vista vs XP Pro & the ram choice?

Thanks for your input

You are very welcome, its my pleasure.

you got a problem, you need to get a 780i mobo to be able to upgrade to a Q9550 or 9600gt now or later down the road. the 680i can't run those.

if you are gonna go 260 gtx make sure you get the 260+

go with vista 64bit otherwise you won't use all of your sytem's ram.
