I am building this for gaming and high performance.  I am on a budget and want the most out of my system.  Any recommendations to make it cheaper with the most horsepower and gaming experience?

Get an E8400 or Q6600 and overclock it. A 0.5 higher multiplier on the E8500 won't make any difference for you since you're on a budget.

If you aren't planning to go SLI, get a 550W PSU.

Get rid of the raptor... the money could be saved or better spent on the GPU.

If you plan on overclocking the GPU, I'd suggest get the 9800GTX or 8800GTS.

Get Vista Premium instead of Vista Ultimate.

Ok, I applied those changes. Thank you.

And is the 9800 better than the 8800?  I went with the Q6600 also.

500 GB HD instead of the raptor.

Anyone agree or disagree with those choices?

The 9800 GTX is just a rebranded 8800 GTS with higher clocks.

They both have better cooling than the 8800GT. The 8800GT does tend to get quite noisy and hot at times.

I dont really see anywhere else where you could save some cash on while keeping performance the same. Other then those silly lights you want haha.

Im somewhat skilled at installing hardware on computers, so i saved a bit by giving the onboard motherboard sound a chance, ive heard they have gotten much better over the years. When i get my computer im gonna try it, and if i like it then cool..i saved 100 bucks or so. If I dont, then i can always go out and buy the sound card and install it...if you have no problems with installing stuff that might be worth a try to save a tiny bit of cash.

Well, I appreciate all of the help this board has provided.  I'll be ordering as soon as my credit card comes in the mail.

And a question off topic, but relevant to the situation: I just graduated high school, and applied for a Capitol One Student CC.  I am not sure if the balance of the CC will be enough to order the whole thing.  Is it at all possible to pay with check/cash and use a CC for the rest?  I haven't ever used a CC for this type of thing and am unacknowledged in the area.  If anyone knows, I would appreciate the solution.

Thank you all,
Kody

If you are using credit card to pay for an online order. Make sure to call your credit card company before of time and tell them that you will be making a big order.

As for paying half and half, you will have to call Digital Storm about it.
