Critique my new build, I will be holding off a week or so to see the
new cooling DS is going to offer. However, I do want to have a good mindset for my budget $ 5,000 and performance wise - value wise, like I said I have a week or two to figure out every- thing so i'm not rushing but would like advice, here it is so far. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=447200 System Configuration:Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Black OPS HailStorm Edition Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Rampage III Extreme (Intel X58 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Dominator with DHX Extreme Edition (CMP6GX3M3A1600C7) Power Supply: 1200W Corsair Pro Gold Series (CMPSU-1200AX) (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (160GB Solid State (By: Corsair) (Model: Drive Force Series CSSD-F160GBP2-BRKT) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition WD1002FAEX) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: Blu-Ray & DVD Writer/Reader (Burn + Play Blu-Ray & DVDs) (12x BD-R) (Lite-On iHBS112) Internet Access: Wireless-PCI N 300Mbps (Supports 802.11n/g/b) Video Card(s): 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 1.5GB (Includes PhysX Technology) (EVGA Brand) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion (Includes Front I/O) (PCI-Express Slot Based) Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 4: Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System: CPU Only H20 Tube Color: White Tubing with High-Performance Fluid (UV Lighting Reactive) Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks CPU Boost: Stage 2: Overclock the processor between 4.0GHz to 4.2GHz (Requires H20 Cooling Upgrade) Graphics Boost: FREE: Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability Memory Boost: Memory Fan Kit Only (Does not include memory overclocking service) OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Pre-Install Game: FREE: Hot-selling game with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 or above graphics card Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Medium) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 4 Year Limited Warranty |

(you didnt say, so i'll assume this is for gaming)
2 things stand out to me:
if you are going so high in budget, liquid cooling your video cards would be far more beneficial than LCing just the processor. id go for stage 6 or ask DSO about just LCing the video cards
wireless for the lose, youre already going to have a lot of cables, and for reliability, stick to wired intenet. AND with 2 video cards and a sound card in there, your pci lanes will already be a little crowded
what makes you want the rampage 3 mobo instead of the evga sli3?

In addition to what Ender said, what made you pick Windows 7 Ultimate? I know why I will be ordering Ultimate but for 99% of people Windows 7 Home Premium is the way to go.

I meant to take the wireless off, agreed.
Any reason to chose the new EVGA 3sli over the rampage? I will probably go with stage 6 but like I said in the post I'm waiting on DS to unveil the new cooling to see prices and such, hopefully in a week or so we will see it in the configuration page. Edited by tech007 - 11 Oct 2010 at 4:55pm |

does the same thing for $200 less
and if you dont already know what the $200 would get you, its likely you would never use it anyway
if you were getting full s6 with chipset cooling then that could change the game, to my knowledge, you would have better cooling performance with the rampage
though, the evga sli 3 is relatively new, so its hard to know for sure

Alright. I think I'm set on the build overall,
except the cooling I'm going to wait and see. I might switch the case to the Lian Li actually, I even thought about going with the GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD9 |

I liked the UD9 but the Rampage has more bells and whistles ;)
Bells and whistles and shiny things are important ...some times. Edited by MagiK - 11 Oct 2010 at 5:19pm |
