I dont know for sure but it looks like you may need to upgrade your cooling a bit with 3 sli gpu's + your quad. If I were spending that mutch on a pc I would defineitely go for the liquid cooling |

If you got that much $$$ to spend on a pc I would go with one of the liquid cooling options. But I would wait for someone more knowledgeable to reply.

I did drop you to dual sli, you can add later
the liquid cooling is for the cpu and not the gpu, you can get much higher/stable results with liquid cooling. here I forgot to take off a couple of small things $3207 you can add upto 8GB of ram if you like, so you can upgrade later, you got vista 64bit so it will recognize and use all of your ram. you can go triple sli later you don't have to get everything right now, thats the beauty of buying from DS,is that you can add to it Edited by DST4ME - 07 Sep 2008 at 10:18pm |

I agree with liquid cooling for a better overclock, but perhaps would stick with the 780i mobo and ddr2 mem for economy. That opens up some cash for graphics cards options. Perhaps able to get back to a couple of 9800GTX+? Or even the new cards! Edited by widdlecat - 07 Sep 2008 at 10:28pm |

I agree with WC. Also, triple SLI with a card that only has a 256bit memory bus and a frame buffer of 512MB is not the best way to go. The scaling is terrible at the resolutions triple SLI really ought to be just starting to show it's muscle. |

It allows you to install your OS on a seperate smaller drive which makes doing an anual re-install much easier (if you are one of the few that does annual maintenance), and it makes defragging that much faster. If you're a complete nut, you could put paging files on a third drive... not... that... I know anyone ... that would do something .... that .... e-hem.. *obsessive*.

The short answer is, in terms of real world advantage, no. Synthetics designed to test RAM bandwidth are going to show DDR3 with a clear advantage. I am going to say you will see much greater performance increase from the liquid cooling. Given one place to put your budget vs the other, I would improve the cooling over worrying about DDR3, no question. The only time DDR3 makes sense IMO, is if you have already fit everything into your budget you wanted and are looking for that last small edge. The only thing I would do behind DDR3 is a 10k RPM HDD.

Do you only put the OS on the first drive? If you re-install the OS or restore the computer can you keep your second HD with all the info and programs intact?
I'm having a terrible time with my computer now infected and I can't get it back on track. But my computer is 6 years old and I'm getting a new one anyway so I don't care about that now but for the new computer I would like to keep it in shape more tightly. If you have any tips I'd like to hear so I can be on top of it brfore I begin with a clean slate as it were.
Does the DS recovery DVD help much? Does DS provide hard copies of the OS and drivers etc? Edited by rai-zero - 08 Sep 2008 at 10:26am |

my antivirus norton and some type of spy sweeper but was not up to date. but I clicked on a bad link and it asked am I sure I want to download and my mistake I said OK.
Now it's directing me to a smart-virus site and locked me out of my task manager and many other things my computer is running at 20% speed if that. I ran a couple oif antivirus sweeps even a whole new AVR (or something) and it's not able to get rid of the infection.
But now that I am in this mess the next computer I will try to keep protected.
any recomendations for virus and spy protection? Edited by rai-zero - 08 Sep 2008 at 10:33am |

Some programs will be OK after an OS reinstallation, some require you to repair the installation, some just need to be reinstalled. It varies. If you want, you can create a seperate partition for your page files. I do not recommend disabling them. I'm sure DST4ME is well aware of the risks, understands the circumstances under which doing so is unlikely to cause an issue, and is prepared to deal with any consequences of disabling his page files. Most users are not. IMO, Use ESET security suite, and Adaware (given the history, I would suggest the paid version with realtime protection from Malware) on your new machine. |

thanks
I'm at work so didn't get a chance to. I will try when I get home.
I'd like to punch the people who get off by making this type of virus. If only they would channel their energy for something good instead.
I was trying to recover all week-end off and on, I wish I had asked about it sooner. Anyway thanks and sorry to the OP that I have hijacked this thread. Edited by rai-zero - 08 Sep 2008 at 12:07pm |

It will probably take a good eight hours to remove this. I've had to deal with this on a few of my friend's computers and my brother's computer.
Get Malwarebytes, Adaware, and SuperAntiSpyware, and CCleaner. Run CCleaner and remove all the temporary files and cookies and uninstall anything suspicious. Run the scan with all of the listed programs, excluding CCleaner. Hopefully this will help. Defintely get an antivirus to block anything from connecting. Bitdfender, Trend Micro, ESET, or Avast. |

you don't need a million different anti malware.
all you need to do is install nod trial Nod32 Free 30 Day Trial then install spysweeper trial nod32 will get rid of what ever you have and spysweeper will catch any spyware you have. run both of those and report your results to me. Malwarebytes, Adaware, and SuperAntiSpyware combined don't do as good of a job as spysweeper Edited by DST4ME - 08 Sep 2008 at 1:22pm |

I have done a million tests, spysweeper beats everybody hands down, the only one that comes close to it is SUPER AntiSpyware, but when infected, its best run spysweeper cause it has no false positives nad does not miss anything.
nod32 will get rid of it, Malwarebytes is not the only that can clean it, ss can sd can. |

HM, I have not met a virus that I could not handle, all the apps do you can do so manually if needed, its a matter removing files and registry but manually is a pain in teh arse .
I can't get infected anymore, nobody should, all you have to do is have nod32 and enalble all its protections, (mail, http, etc,) and a good firewall like sygate pro or online armor and spysweeper. after that don't open anything unless nod has scanned it first and don't install any plugins or extensions from anysite cause you dont need it. do that and you should never get infected with anything. to remove the virus manually you need to remove this regkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run ieupdate and these files: av2009.exe av2009install.exe av2009install_0011.exe av2009[1].exe Antivirus2009.exe ieupdates.exe scui.cpl %program_files%\antivirus 2009\av2009.exe %startmenu%\antivirus 2009\antivirus 2009.lnk %startmenu%\antivirus 2009\uninstall antivirus 2009.lnk winsrc.dll %desktopdirectory%\antivirus 2009.lnk winsrc.dll ieupdates.exe av2009install_0011.exe av2009install.exe %program_files%\antivirus 2009\av2009.exe do them all in safemode. at the end of the day we all have to remember one thing: who installed the virus/trojen? we did Edited by DST4ME - 08 Sep 2008 at 4:12pm |

only changes I would make to that is to get the velocicraptor "300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed")for the OS and 500GB for second HDD.
also I would go with the cosmos s case and only one DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) also change your ram to ocs: 4GB DDR2 OCZ at 1066MHz (SLI-Ready Edition) corsair has has some failure lately and the fan for the ocz is much cooler |
