Im new so don't know if my advice is worth anything, but looks like a good build for the price to me, all the basics of a great gaming machine you can add on to or upgrade.

980x @ 3.9, SLI Dual 480s, 120 gig SSD, X-fi Champion, 1200w, 800d, 12 gigs RAM, RTS + CS5 Fun O Fun Oh My!

you didnt really say what its for, but if its a gaming power rig you could make a few changes and fit a gtx480 in a pretty similar budget

for example, its actually $10 less

no sacrifice in gaming power, only difference is if you want to go to 3 or 4 way sli one day this wont work, lol
and the 480 is average 15-25% stronger for gaming performance

The last build you posted seems to be downgraded in several areas Lender...weaker processor, less RAM, different MOBO, and no cooling solutions.

The rig will be primarily for gaming and basic at home applications/web surfing.

So, I will see performance gains here by bumping the GPU up to the 480 from the 470. Will that offset going from 6 gigs to 4 gigs of RAM?

nothing to offset on the 4v6 gb of ram, games wont see any measurable difference
and the power of most games relies wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more on video power, once you are over a certain limit with processor power, which an 860 or 920 can easily go past with a mild overclock

tom's hardware actually did a test to see what the gains were going from 3 to 6 gigs of ram and if i remember right, the article showed no gain in any normal use application
