ok im trying to keep the rig under 2500. it's going to be for mainly gaming, surfing and watching movies etc. i play alot of games (all types and im a big fan of running everything on the best settings). here is the rig i made using some advice i seen others give in other posts. let me know what u think:
price $2403 Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 3770K 3.50 GHz (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 (Intel Z77 Chipset) (Features Thermal Armor and Thermal Radar) System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (180GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 520 Series) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (Model: Black Edition) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB (Includes PhysX) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 Extreme Performance H20 Tube Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks CPU Boost: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Graphics Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 10-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty one question though. my current rig is from DS and my power supply died after 3 years. a friend of mine said it was probably due to overclocking the system. should i not overclock this time? i ended up buying a new power supply off newegg and the system is up and running again but it was a pain in the behind being without a comp for 5 days waiting for it to come in, any idea on this? thanks |

Hi Godhand456.... That rig is right-on in my opinion. Quality parts and with the Sabertooth mobo and the psu, you can easily add another gtx670 in sli if ever needed.
I doubt overclocking took out the psu early. Oc'ing does draw a little more from the supply but so does adding an extra HDD, anything external, etc. If the added draw was 'dirty', meaning current ripple, unstable voltage then possible for a boarderline psu but that 1050hx is an excellant psu with plenty of headroom and a 7 year warranty plus oc is clean. Congrats on a nice build and good luck.
New video cards are supposedly only a couple of weeks away if you want to take a wait and see. But, gtx 670 is great. |

ya im debating with the upgrade on the motherboard to the sabertooth. i dont know if i will ever add another video card to it, but i like to always have that option just in case.
ya i dunno what killed my old power supply. could of been alot of things. as long as overclocking is "safe", then i dont mind doing it. i dont want to shorten the lifespan of the computer. i like to keep rigs for awhile. i tend to use one for 3-4 years and then buy a new one and give the old rig to my kids. |

Just that overclocking done right will not shorten the cpu's longevity. The chips are made for it, and with proper cooling and DS doing it, really no problem. Sometimes a call to DS is needed to tweek it a bit, but that's not the usual.
