I have been learning everything I can about running Crysis with DX10 and I keep hearing that it is possible to build a computer for a reasonable price that will run it on high to very high settings. Is this true? What is the lowest priced computer you can build that will do that?
Also, I am going to need a monitor. Is there a big difference between a 22" and a 24" or is 22" plenty? I also want to say that Digital Storm is really doing a great job connecting with customers. The information I found on your site is really excellent. I can't wait to get my computer figured out so I can order it! Thanks. |

Also, it was recommended that a GTS 8800 640 MB or similar GPU be used. Does this mean that the 320 MB version is not recommended?

Both Vista Ultimate and Premium comes in 64 bit. Compare the features yourself and see which ones you need. Only reason why you need 64 bit is for more memory. I don't recommend 64 bit unless you are going for 4 GB of ram or a editor.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/choose.mspx The bigger the monitor you go, the bigger your budget must be. A 24" will be running your game at a resolution of 1920x1200 or higher while a 22" will run your game at a 1600x1200 or lower. Both resolutions will be very demanding on a game like Crysis. This is the rig lowest I would recommend playing at those resolutions. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=86385 any more questions or concerns? |

Monitor size is more a matter of personal preference. If your going to be running Crysis on a budget build, you probably would want to go with a 22" or smaller monitor since at 24" your graphics card would have to be pushing 1920x1200 resolution - you'll get better performance at a lower res and a sharper image if it matches your monitor's native resolution.
This page has Crysis performance info, updated as of yesterday: http://www.incrysis.com/wiki/index.php/Crysis_System_Requirements Some main points: - Crysis should run on 2-3 year old PCs (albeit with lower graphics settings) - "Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (or AMD equivalent), 2GB of memory, and either a Radeon HD 2900XT with 512MB of memory or a Geforce 8800 GTS with 640MB of memory" recommended - Crysis should have a 10-15% performance increase per thread running in 64-bit. So a dual-core PC running a 64-bit OS should see a 20-30% performance increase, a quad, even better than that. Another interview, plus a pretty awesome video: http://www.driverheaven.net/gamingreviews/crysisinterview/index.php Looks like an awesome game. Chris Edited by thecomplex - 10 Oct 2007 at 12:44pm |

Sorry about the multiple posts.
Do I need a mother board that will allow a second GPU in SLI so that this rig will be upgradeable? Will that processor do the job for two big cards. "Gaming Heaven: Performance, the main question every gamer has. What will be needed to run the game at playable framerates? How about playing with everything maxed? Will current rigs be able to run the game at 1920x1200 without making sacrifices? Do you recommend ATI or Nvidia and have you any performance figures for us for the Nvidia 8800 and ATi 2900? Cevat: Everything maxed and at that resolution, you will need a seriously high rig of the latest generation available now. Bear in mind we don’t expose, but have built in scaleability for the upcoming 1-2 years. That will be available as hardware catches up. So when I say maxed, its maxed for now." Thanks for all the great info, video and build information! |

If you want a better Over Clock and support for adding a second Vid Card in SLI, look at this build:
It lowers the card to a 8800GTS 640Mb and includes a bigger Hard Drive. Edited by gdhart - 10 Oct 2007 at 12:56pm |

if you can afford it go with this build, it is nearly the same as skyR's but it is more futureproof. (upgradable)

My budget? It is probably around 2k. But that doesn't include a monitor, that I am going to buy. But I am flexible about that figure because I want Crysis to run at high resolution. I am leaning towards a 22" monitor.
Thanks for everyone's help! You guys are awesome! |

You need a motherboard that supports SLI if you want to add a second card down the road. But I don't think SLI is worth it unless you are SLIing the highest end card on the market. A single better card will always be better in performance / price. |

Nice build sundowner! I was looking at your DS specs and I was wondering what kind of performance your computer would do with Crysis? Are your going to upgrade or is that sufficient?

Try this one for a budget build, this will also let you upgrade later. it is almost at 3k but it is still around 2k, $2,800 something dollars. If you don't want the Fatal1ty sound-card then completely remove it and do an onboard or a cheaper soundcard. That is with a samsung 22" monitor, a 24" monitor is like 600+ dollars. with this setup it runs just before 3k. The reason I picked some things that I did was for future upgrades that you could do. As well as overclocking in the future That is if you need to. maybe someone else could help you out more then me, but I don't see a problem with this build. I think this is a sweet build even with a 22" monitor. I highly doubt your going to see a huge difference between the 2 monitors when maxed out. It's kind of like a HDTV with 1080i and another one with 1080p, if the channel has a HIGH quality picture with 1080i you wont be able to tell the difference with a 1080p quality picture. I would say stick with a 22" monitor. Nice build! It included everything so it is more realistic. I need to basically get everything. My old computer is worn out, including the clackety keyboard and mouse, so I need to add that too! Thanks, I am like on the edge of my seat trying to decide on my build. I have the money!

i would not recommend that VALUE case, with high end processor and video card you are going to want at least a pro case.

I am confused about this build. What Vista version do I need for Crysis DX10 with 2 GB DDR2?
And is the Pro case in stock? If not will the Lite case work? Here's the build... http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=86385 |

The Pro Case is still on backorder, it's the one my system is on hold waiting for. I called and confirmed that today, they expect them back in stock 11/1. The Lite case will work, but the cooling in the Pro is a bit better. You should probably ask about what sort of overclocking speed is average with that motherboard so you know what to expect before you order.

With my system I could run it at medium to high and get good fps because my monitor runs at 1024x768. My systelm is built to be my PC for the next 3-5 years with a few upgrades here and there, IE GPU's/faster ram.
If you're running at any rez higher than that you need at least a 640mb or a GTX, which is what i placed in the config for you.
Also in the config if you wanted to add a second GTX down the road you could, then you'd definitely be able to play Crisis maxed out at almost any rez. Essentially the build I posted is within your price range and would be upgradable for a few years to come.
Any version of Vista will be fine, you should stick with premium though, it's the most common and less painful to transition to (or so I've heard).

Monstromo, get the 22". I have the 22" Samsung (226BW) and it is PLENTY big for all you're needs. I feel like I'm already gonna fall into the screen as it is! The problem with wide screen monitors that I have discovered is it takes some time getting used to when it comes to everyday use (non-gaming). This page for instance, I have to pan my head from left to right to read the text. Kinda irritating. But a 24" inch screen? I wouldn't like that at all. Also, if you have some older games and they don't have the resolutions available for widescreen, you'll have to modify the games config (if its avail that is) to make the changes or your charactors are gonna look squashed or stretched out. I know bigger is better and all that, but 22" is really big whe you get it home and set up. I hope this helps. BTW, you can get the 22" Sammy like the one I have for like 329 bucks at Circuit City and prolly cheaper online. Believe me, that's a lotta monitor for the money. Check Cnet.com for their review of it.
Man, gaming online with my 22" is almost like a cheat. I see so much more and from so far away. Its great for gaming. Oh yeah!
