I think it would depend more on your resolution. But with SLI 88GTS you should be able to play on High or very high for a decent amount of the stuff.

Oh yea for sure then. Thats a fairly low rez for SLI to be honest. Kinda silly to spend that much money for one game, cause at that rez with a GTS you should have no problems running max on any other game. Its youre money though.

From the best of my knowledge, two graphics cards in SLI doesn't boost your FPS very much, but it makes it where you can have a lot higher resolution. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Seems to me that if you don't wish to trade off resolution and like a big monitor... say beyond a 22" widescreen, then SLI gives you a better framerate depending upon AA and other effects like shaders. Looks like at the resolution of most 22" and below the better single card solutions can be competitive.

Then again, newer games demand more and more from the graphics cards. Crysis seems to really push the limits of current graphics technology. My most demanding game for graphics is prolly Assassin's Creed and I can run max detail with res of 1640 x 1024, so I haven't even seen what others play that require SLI.

Mebbe Kelly or some other SLI owner can give shed some light here?

That would basically be about a 8800GTS sli anyways. So youd be better off just getting a second 88GTS as itd be much cheaper as you already have one card.

For totally new builds though like mine, id say go with the GX2, since at least currently its cheaper though DS to get a single GX2 over a SLI 88GTS

Youd need at least a 1000W power supply for that. Keep that in mind. Also to keep in mind is that quad sli is very very very quirky right now with tons of driver issues. In many games right now the performance boost is little to negative.

Im sure that will improve though as the drivers get refined. Also keep in mind that quad SLI ONLY works with Vista.

Here is a good comparsion review of quad sli though (take note of the resolutions used)

I was told a 620 PSU was all that was needed to run "one: 9800 card..
but depending on your setup.. that will be the deciding factor....
call DS and ask them what they recommend,,  I mean, they do build systems and they'd be the best to ask for a situation that your asking.
good luck and have fun!!

EDIT TO ADD:   I may be completely wrong,, someone correct me..

I tried to search for the thread, but couldn't find it,,  I had asked one time about if i could run a newer vid card,, and the person, said my PSU could only handle one card, but i believe they said it would work on a 9800 ??
but if i wanted to go sli with 9800,, i would have to get diff PSU

a 620W to 750 would be able to handle one 9800GX2.

according to the pricing on DS, a 1000W silverstone or corsair HX will run $97 dollars more then a 750W.
