Topic: Current ODE Level 3 Setup Posted: 27 Nov 2011 at 8:32am |
How does the current ODE Level 3 measure up to other DS custom made setups?
I'm really looking into buying the ODE Level 3 instead of the past setups that had been suggested. I really like the idea and concept of the ODE Level 3, but I also want to make sure I get the biggest "bang for my buck." So once again I'll make a new topic and hopefully be buying a computer before the end of November. Budget: No more than 3,000 including system and monitor. Below is the monitor I plan on buying with the possibility of getting a second monitor in the future. Dell UltraSharp u2312 Expectations: To make the system last for 4 to 5 years with the utmost reliability with the ability to leave on for days at a time without experiencing any overheating problems. Usage: I plan on watching a lot of movies (using the monitor above as my viewing screen), playing SW:TOR, a good amount of college work, and web surfing of course. I also play other games such as Mass Effect and might try out Skyrim. Edited by DefineGodLike - 27 Nov 2011 at 8:32am |

Instead of making a new topic just post in your old thread, it would be easier.
that custom config, has better/bigger case, better airflow, mobo, psu, ssd, cpu cooler. now that config has one 570 vs the two 570, so if the games you play use/need sli, the ode 3 will do better but if you add a second 570 to the custom config then you have a much better pc quality and perfomrance-wise. also we recommend gpu upgrade every couple of years so that the pc stays powerful and feeling new in gaming, but then in the future if you want to upgrade the sli to future cards and they have needs of a 580 sli the 800w of ode 3 can't do it. now with the hdd prices tripling in the past few months, I would drop hdd2 and you add that later: Here you go Ticket# 624358 --- $2,671 (To see this build click here) don't forget that you get another $125 off of that for promotion going on now, and this one has sli 570 already. If for some reason I wanted to upgrade the ODE level 3 to a better GPU, the only thing I'd have to upgrade is the PSU correct? And the SLI 570's should last awhile (a year or two for max settings) right? Also, how is the AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler better than the Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition)?

Yes psu, and sli 570 should be great for a couple of years.
not sure what you mean by "how is a70 better then vortex", it does a better job cooling and gets better load temps, just because some has lc or is lc does not mean its great, lc is all about waterblock/rad/fans, you put cheap rad or block in a loop and you can kiss your perfomrance good bye, you dont get blocks/rads/fans that can beat a70/noctua till you get to stage 4 cooling. don't forget, the case in the custom config is much better thus will give you better load temps with less noise. |

So without going to stage 3 or 4 cooling, which extreme cooling is the best and second best and why?
Also, which mobo is the best and second best without choosing the ultimate and what makes it better than the others? Oh and just an update, I bought the Dell UltraSharp u2312HM. :) Edited by DefineGodLike - 28 Nov 2011 at 6:24am |

not stage 3, stage 4, stage 4 is where you beat a70 and noctua.
not counting stage 4 and higher, noctua would be best then a70, both have similar performance maybe 1c or 2c difference, but noctua is a tab bit better with lower noise. deluxe is best in the p67/68, followed by z68 pro here, for price, and deluxe has the best reviews from owners in all the forums I have seen form people that actually have it, of course that is for sli setup. good for you on the monitor, you gonna love it Edited by DST4ME - 28 Nov 2011 at 6:33am |

I currently don't plan on using SLI, but would like to (if needed) in the future.
How often does a mobo need to be upgraded? Is it worth to buy a mobo that is SLI ready now and in 1 to 2 years buy another 570 or 2 new GPU in SLI? Or would it be better to buy a mobo not setup for SLI and then in 1 to 2 years upgrade the mobo and GPUs? Not sure if that made any sense? :-/ |

Get sli mobo now and in 2 years get a new gpus, otherwise I doubt in 2 years you would be able to get a 570.
try to buy a 470 right now and you will see that even tho it has less performance than a 570, it will cost you more then a 570, same thing will happen to 570. you normally get a new mobo when you get a new pc, so this mobo should last you the life of your system. Since the crisis in Thailand hdd prices have tripled, IMHO drop the hdd for now, prices should be down by march, add the hdd then, its extremely easy and I/we are here if you need us to walk you thru, you can always call DS and have them walk you thru.
shop around for speakers and keyboard/mouse see if you can get better prices elsewhere. add the second 570 after the new gpus come out, hopefully the price on the 570 will drop a bit. Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans: haf 200mm non led fan Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc. great build. So.. 7 years later my PC is still the exact same PC as it came from Digital Storm and has ran perfectly!
Correction: it is now windows 10 instead of 7 But it is now showing its age when it comes to gaming.. any advice on how I should pursue some upgrades? Thank you for the continued support DS! Edited by DefineGodLike - 01 Dec 2018 at 12:09pm |

I'm not the most knowledgeable, but I would think that a $400.00 GTX 1070 would boost your gaming very well.
Wait and see what others say though. |

Yep, what Nomad said. Just replace your gtx 570 with a 1070 and your performance will double or triple in gaming. If your still on your Dell 1080p monitor then the 1070 is awesome.

Should I be ok with 8GB of ram or should I consider adding more as well?
I'd like to get into VR but ultimately I need this machine to be able to play the next elder scrolls in 2ish years (the reason I orginally bought this PC back in 2011 was for skyrim). |

I'm currently playing a heavily modded version of Skyrim with the Vanquish 2 on GTX1070 at 1080. It's more than enough GPU. You should see quite a difference.
