As some know, I've been struggling to decide what to order, ODE or custom. I've been trying to find a way to do most of my work from home. I'll be bringing my Dell U3011 home for my design work, but need a system that can push the high res on the IPS. It will be a single display system, except for when I watch movies, I generally use HDMI out to my TV. So it will never be powering 2 displays when when it's running at peak, so I'm just focused on the one monitor.
I've read reviews on the GTX580 3GB and it seems to be a safe bet for getting a long lasting investment out of one card for a 24"+ IPS setup. well actually a single 580 is not gonna do that great at that res, that res needs sli/cf if you want to run games at max settings, the vram only helps with aa settings, otherwise with low aa settings, you would not notice the difference between the 3GB and 1.5GB versions.
Also your build has some issues, why the deluxe mobo but 750w psu? if you are not going to go sli (750w can't do sli 580) why pick the deluxe, if its for the oc, then higher the oc the higher the vcore, the higher the vcore the faster cpu dies. you are going with fan upgrade, loud fans, but then getting noise package, also the noise package itself is not a great idea, trap noise, trap heat, on top of that, 90% of your noise will come from gpu's fan when under load, nothing will stop their noise but LC. the OC on gpu here is very mild and you won't notice it, plus where it counts you are looking at 5 fps or so extra. what kind of ram you pick will not matter, you won't notice it. here is your build modified and with a ssd: Here you go Ticket# 565912 --- $2535 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO (Intel Z68 Chipset) (Features Intel Quick Sync Technology) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 3GB (Includes PhysX) (EVGA 03G-P3-1584-AR) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 Extreme Performance (Does NOT fit on the regular EVGA X58 3X SLI) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the side, so you endup with 3 x 200mm fans: haf 200mm non led fan personally I would recommend that you go with a system that can do sli so you have that option should you want it. |

Bkral why didnt you choose sabertooth board? Wasn't that your preference?
You also chose a 5.0+ OC option, when it requires the maximus board because the BIOS.

@ironmb: If you actually look at my saved config, it's not what was pasted on the original post, don't know why it's showing the asus board. When in fact the sabertooth and a phase 1 OC is selected on the config. (First troll I've seen here too. Guess they really do exist on every forum.)
@DST4ME: So... would it just be better to go with the SLI GTX580 1.5's? Or would 2 570's do a pretty good job as of now and I can just invest in the 580's later after they've come down a bit? |

Call me troll how ever you see it. You argued to your grave that the sabertooth was a better board.

I don't really see me stating that I've seen a ton of reviews that lean towards the P67 Sabertooth as being superior as "arguing to my grave".

IF you want high aa settings, then you need either sli 580 3GB version or cf 6970.
if aa settings are gonna be kept low, then sli 570 will do great, its pointless to go from sli 570 to sli 580, you go sli 570, in 2 years upgrade the gpus to future gpus, if you feel like you need more power. for that res however we recommend a system that can do tri sli/cf, and for that you gonna want to wait for the high end SB platform that comes out Q4 of this year, price on that platform is pretty high.
