Been playing with the config's available. I like to upgrade to a Z690 with DDR5 slots but want to add DDR4 memory. Wait out the high prices for DDR5.
The config-urator wont allow you to check out if I do this. I thought DDR4 would work in a DDR5 slot? Good morning btw. Edited by Threetall - 27 Nov 2021 at 7:24am |

Jay (of JayzTwoCents) thought that as well. However, when he finally got around to handling and trying all of the new gen. stuff, he realized a motherboard would need to have two distinct slots (two/four for DDR4, two/four for DDR5).
The new Intel 12900k is here!!!! | JayzTwoCents (YouTube) (At 10:10 he shows a DDR4 stick sitting in a DDR5 slot.) Basically, unfortunately, you'll need to pick one or the other. If you haven't seen it yet, maybe this will help: DDR5 vs. DDR4 Benchmarks on Intel i9-12900K (Alder Lake Memory Comparison) | Gamers Nexus (YouTube) P.S. RAM modules with the same number of connector (pins) have always had the notch moved to prevent installing the wrong type. Edited by MrCheetah - 27 Nov 2021 at 8:00am |
