DDR4 in a DDR5 slot

Been playing with the config's available. I like to upgrade to a Z690 with DDR5 slots but want to add DDR4 memory. Wait out the high prices for DDR5.

The config-urator wont allow you to check out if I do this. I thought DDR4 would work in a DDR5 slot?

Jay (of JayzTwoCents) thought that as well. However, when he finally got around to handling and trying all of the new gen. stuff, he realized a motherboard would need to have two distinct slots (two/four for DDR4, two/four for DDR5).

(At 10:10 he shows a DDR4 stick sitting in a DDR5 slot.)

Basically, unfortunately, you'll need to pick one or the other.

P.S. RAM modules with the same number of connector (pins) have always had the notch moved to prevent installing the wrong type.
