Hey guys i recently got a Vanquish lvl3 about a month ago. im starting to look into getting a sound card. i got a set of really nice speakers(Logitech z5500), and some really good headphones (AKG k550)
anyways. i need it to be 5.1 and have at least 1or 2 S/pdif ports. i kinda got it narrowed down to 2 cards Soundblaster ZX and soundblaster ZXR. they got everything i need, are pretty much the same, obvious differences of course, kinda just wondering if i should spend the extra money on the ZXR half the ports it has i probably wont be using im also wondering a few things, will i have enough power to run these cards? im guessing yes. and do i still get the same quality sound by using the 3x 3.5mm jacks (front, rear, center ones) as i would with the s/pdif? ...also any other cards i should look into? hopefully this post makes sence, i just got off work and really tired XD thanks for any help N¿ck |

I haven't used a sound card in years, so not much help with some questions. I can say the sound cards use very little power. Not a problem as you suspected.

You may have already jumped the gun and bought what you need, but I'll chime in anyways.
Depends what you are using the sound for. If it's multiplayer gaming I would personally stay away from the Zx or Zxr's. You're not gaining any advantage in those cards over the already designed for gaming Fatality series. The headset wont create 5.1 sound because virtually it is not possible. While many headsets claim 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound they cannot actually produce it. A speaker set is is truly the only way for you to hear in 5.1. If you create music and video then I could see a use for the higher end zx or zxr. If that is the case then it just depends how much oomph you need. |

i do some recording at home but mainly gaming....
i already ordered the ZXR's on ebay. i know the headphone 5.1 and 7.1 is all bullcrap, ive heard it before and its not pleasent to the ears, sounds too echo/wabbley. i read up on the specs of the zxr and they seem to be what im looking for. it might be overkill but then again this computer is overkill for my needs anyways XD thanks for the help tho RF1 |
