I have been looking at this site for 2-3 years and i always wanted to get the x17. As i get older going onto 18 i have yet to find a job. I started thinking If i was really a hardcore gamer which is easily a no. I like many different types of games. I play BF3,GTA series, etc. I hate lag so i was going to put a 8gb ram stick in there. i like good graphics. I was also going to put ic diamond compound on it.
Here come the problems. -Price range trying to keep it under $1300 hundred dollars. -lit keyboard -mic by the camera not by the track pad -number pad XM11 -Under 1300 Hundred with 8 GB and the diamond compound on it. -no lit keyboard -mic by camera -no number pad XM15 -Under 1300 Hundred with 8 GB and the diamond compund on it. -no lit keyboard -mic not by camera -number pad So i really don't know what to decide on. BTW what system is the XM11 and XM15 based on? Edited by Andrew - 08 Oct 2012 at 5:17pm |

Since you have always wanted the x17....I'd say to go for it. The reason is because you can configure it down to about $1,479. which is only $149 above your budget. The x17 does have the lit keyboard and the number pad. The mic is at the keypad but it's a good compromise to get the other two. I would run the NVidia 675M GPU because, as you make more money later, the x17 is very easy to upgrade the GPU. In about a year or so, that $900. NVidia GTX 680M card will be selling much cheaper. Same with the hard drives. Put a small one in bay one and keep the secondary bay empty. You can always upgrade later. Actually...same with the CPU and RAM. This way you get the platform you always wanted and can upgrade all the parts as they get cheaper and/or you get more money. I'd skip the diamond paste....yes it's good but the cooling in the x17 is fine and you can always repaste them later with the premium paste youself. I know it's tough when you're young and unemployed but you won't be forever. That's what is so good about the x17 platform....you have a lot of headroom to upgrade all the parts when you do get a job. Hope this helps

I just saw that question. All of digital storm's laptops are presently based on the Clevo platform. They do not sell direct to consumers. They are imported to resellers who configure and support them.

I also own a x17 like Bobby, and it is extremely upgradable.
You can very easily upgrade the ram, gpu, cpu, optical drive, and hard drives. I have even seen guides on how to swap out the display, keyboard, fans, etc. I imagine that the x11 and x15 models are similar in upgradability. One thing to consider with the x17 is that it is big and it is heavy(~7-8lbs), and has a monster of a power brick. If you are wanting a more portable laptop I would suggest the x11. However if you are wanting this laptop as a "portable desktop" or something similar, the x17 is the choice to go for. If you have any other specific questions about the x17 or Digital Storm I would be happy to answer them.

If you want the x17 you should get it, Im sure youd be happy with the x11 or x15 models but you might have slight buyers remorse later. Also like Bobby and DomTheBomb said you can easily upgrade it later when you have more cash.

Hi Andrew...... Until Bobby gets back., checkout Config# 735908. I think he dropped the video card down a bit and maybe HDD.
The default build is usually not the least expensive you can go. Good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 09 Oct 2012 at 3:55pm |

The x17 rocks. Like the others say, if that is the one you always wanted.....I would make it happen if you can. I am super impressed with mine.

About 10x better than my old Asus RoG. I was pleasantly surprised. Have to keep in mind it is a laptop. No real room for a sub to have the air space to boom, but it puts out very good sound.
