Looking for the best gaming rig you can buy for $3,000 (not including monitor and accessories).  What's your recommend specs?

As a follow up, is there any reason to wait to buy a computer right now (i.e. anything on the horizon that will have a big enough impact that it's worthwhile to wait 1-6 months for)?

There is *always* something big on the horizon in technology.I wouldn't let that stop or even slow me if the need for a new system is there.

What resolutions will you be gaming at Joey?

I suppose by "something big", I was referring to a fairly significant technology development, rather than an incremental improvement.

I have a 24" widescreen, so I think the resolution is something like 1680 * 1200.  I may buy a bigger monitor at some point, though (or just hook it up to my 62" 1080p LCD), so it should be scalable for higher resolutions.

The only thing I can think of that might be worth waiting for is the update to the configurator that will include the 790i and DDR3, but pricing would dictate whether or not that would be the best choice at your budget.

Chances are excellent that a larger screen like a 61" would be easier to support from the graphics card side of things than the 24" monitor, so if you're good with the 24" monitor, you're definitely good with a big screen TV.
