Budget:
About $10,000, max $12,000 (including the $2500 asus monitor) I’m planning to go all out on an Aventum X gaming build with a rtx 3090 and the top tier i9 rocket lake processor when they come out in the beginning of 2021 (mainly for PCIe 4.0 for RTX IO tech and possible 5.5Ghz overclocks on rocket lake cpus) My question is about how DS runs their water loop when you opt for custom GPU and CPU water cooling. I’d like the loop to run like this: 1. Water is pumped from tank to cpu water block. 2. Hot water from cpu is cooled by the first radiator. 3. Cooled water from first radiator runs through gpu water block. 4. Hot water from gpu is cooled by second radiator. 5. Cooled water from second radiator returns to the tank and the cycle repeats. It doesn't have to be in exactly that order, as long as the water goes through a radiator after the cpu and again after the gpu I’ll be happy. Is this how the loop would work? And will dual radiators be used on both the aventum X and velox case? Second question, what kind of fans are used to cool the radiators when you opt for the standard factory fans? Are they run of the mill basic case fans or are they higher quality static pressure fans more suitable for radiators? And are different fans used on the Velox vs Aventum X cases? On an unrelated note, does anyone know if its worth watercooling the RTX 3000 series? After “capacitor-gate” and rumors that the rtx 3080 and 3090 are unstable at higher clock rates, I’m left wondering if water cooling these gpus will have any performance benefit. |

I can only provide insight on one of your questions. Others with more PC "brain cells" will come along.
With the expected launch of the 3080, through launch etc., I have watched a lot of videos on the 3080 from all manufacturers. There seems to be a consensus that there is not much overclocking headroom on the 3080, some, but not a lot. All the cards seem to cool relatively well as is, without watercooling, some a little better than others. I personally would not go through the extra expense of watercooling the card when there is little to be gained. The 3090 might be a different story, but I doubt it. Welcome to DS. That is a monster of a pc. You will have to call DS to find out how the cooling manifold distributes the coolant. I have an Av 2 and it goes form Res>Pump>lower rads (2)>cpu>upper rad (1)>gpus(2)>Res. Even if you don't oc the gpu (which for the 3090 would be unnecessary) it is always better to run all hardware cooler rather than hotter. If you do end up with the Aventum, you really have to get everything under liquid. That is what it is built for. The cpu oc'ing will really depend on the cpu lottery and your mobo. Keep us posted. |
