Topic: Device disconnect sound....Posted: 09 Jan 2012 at 6:51am |

I'm running WIN7-64 on my fine DS computer. About 2 days ago I started to get the default Win7 'Device Disconnect' sound ocuuring randomly. This happens ONLY when I'm on the internet. There are, of course, no devices being disconnected from the system that I know of. Should I be concerned as this has never happened before. Should I suspect someone trying to hack in or tap the wireless router, or even 'ping' my adress...............?

You could have something plugged in that the driver for it did not install correctly. That can cause windows to constantly try to reconnect to the device. You can trouble shoot that by connecting to the internet and unplugging everything you can except your headset. Unplug your keyboard, mouse, everything, and see if you keep getting the noise. If not plug the items back in one at a time and wait to see if you keep getting the noise over and over after plugging each device in.

While checking through the Win7 device manager, I found a 'unkown device' with no drivers installed. I have no idea what it is! How can I find out? Can I safely delete it?
I recently installed a 120Gb Intell SSD, but that shows up in the device manager and is fully functional. PS: you might want to switch this thread over to the 'Hardware' forum?

I checked inside the case. No apparent issues. The 'Unidentified' device properties details list it as........ UMB\logitech SS device........I don't know what that is. I have a Logitech mouse and keyboard, which I unplugged then plugged back in, but the 'unknown device didn't clear. The Win7 garphic which shows all connected devices shows the unknown item as something inside the.'computer' graphic.

It was the Logitech Gaming keyboard that was screwing up! I diconnected the device within the device manager and reinstalled drivers and software. Mysterious 'unknown device' disappeared.! Keyboard and Mouse are shown as Logitech components within the device manager, now.
Thanks DST4ME; I owe you a cold one,,,,,,
